Ian Jensen, Publisher of the Vernon Morning Star newspaper, provided the Kalamalka Rotary Club members with a humourous and enlightening Classification Presentation. As has been stated many times before, many of our most interesting speakers come to us through our club members as we glean an insight into their personal and professional sides of life through this form of discussion. Once again Ian, welcome to the Kalamalka Rotary Club and "Family of Rotary".

The K alamalka Rotary "Peace Niks" were among 17 teams that recently competed at the 6th Annual, Junction Literacy and Youth Centre's "Spelling Bee Challenge".
The Kal team members were Michael Stamhuis (Captain), Pippa Shaw, Mary Jackson, Nicole Kohnert, Taylor Dedora, Frank Anderson along with Clark and Marjorie Brewer.
The team was appropiately adorned with headbands and beads, decked out in their finest "hippie" garb!
Unfortuantely, the team did not place in the top 3 of the competition. However, if there is any saving grace, they beat the Vernon Rotary "Vowel Movement" team spelling 12, versus their 8, correct words out of 15. Great fun was had by all and the Kal Team is already planning to attend next years event! Can we field two teams? Join us in the fun and excitement next year.
What will our team theme be next year?
By the way, approximately $20,000 was raised in an effort to assist the Centre with the various programs they run through the year for all ages.
Perhaps there is a way you could show your support either financially and/or by volunteering your time to one of their many program

Dr. Stan and Faye Fike provided an emotional and extremely informative presentation on the work being done in Addis Ababa, Ethopia at the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital. at istula" you ask? is a Fistula?
What is "fistula" you ask? It is the most devastating of all childbirth injuries. An obstetric fistula develops when the blood supply to the tissues of the vagina and bladder (and/or rectum) is cut off during prolonged, obstructed labour. The tissues die and a hole forms through which urine and/or faeces pass uncontrollably. Women who develop fistulae are often abandoned by their husbands, rejected by their communities and forced to live an isolated existence. For more information about the work being done at this hospital, please check out the following link http://www.hamlinfistula.org/index.html Thanking Dr. Stan and Faye for their presentation is Kal Rotarian, Darryl O'Brian.
