Mike Deatz, Program Nov. 11 - How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying

Mike Deatz grew up in Rock Port, Missouri and went to college for his Bachelor and Master Degrees in Education at NWMSU in Maryville (about 36 miles from home).  He graduated in 1973.  Mike taught a year in Avoca, Iowa, then took a year away from teaching to music-direct theatre in Omaha.  He did two 8-week runs at Westroads Dinner Theatre:  Fiddler on the Roof and Cabaret.  He missed teaching and subbed in the Council Bluffs and Lewis Central districts for that year.  Mike then moved to Stanberry, Missouri and taught from 1975-1980, teaching K-12 Vocal Music and doing their first musicals ever.  He took a Jr. High compact version of JOSEPH to the MMEA (Missouri Music Educators Association) in the Ozarks.

Mike moved to Chariton in the fall of 1980 and he's been here ever since, doing the annual musical and helping, then later directing the plays.  This is his 32nd year and he still enjoys working with the kids and loves doing musicals and plays.

This week's Rotary Foundation Thought is about Polio Plus

In 1985, Rotarians made a promise to the children of the world to eradicate polio.  Since PolioPlus began, the number of polio cases worldwide has declined by 99 percent, thanks largely to the efforts of Rotarians around the world. Rotarians have committed nearly US$650 million toward global polio eradication efforts.  Already, five million children are walking who would have been paralyzed, and more than 1.5 million lives have been saved.  None of this would be possible if it weren't for Rotary's leadership and vision.

What a wonderful legacy we are leaving to the children of the world.  Goodbye Polio.
Thank you, Rotary.

The Object of Rotary

The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and in particular, to encourage and foster;

I.  The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

II.  High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying by each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

III.  The application of the ideal of service by every Rotarian's personal, business and community life;

IV.  The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

THE FOUR-WAY TEST of the things we think say or do

first

Is it the TRUTH?
second

Is it FAIR to all concerned?
third
      Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
fourth

Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
