Hotel Charitone, Program March 2nd
Rotary will meet at Carpenter's Hall on Friday for lunch, then dismiss early for the special announcement of future plans for the Hotel Charitone at 1:00 p.m. on the first floor of the hotel.

Rotarian and Chariton Chamber Director Shantel Dow received a letter from the Prairie Meadows Grant Advisory Committee that their Board of Directors have approved a Community Betterment Grant to the Chariton Rotary Club in the amount of $5,000 for the proposed Backpack Buddies. Great job Shantel!

Mystery Dinner Theater, March 3rd
Make plans to join the fun at the Mystery Dinner Theater to benefit the Relay for Life of Lucas County to be held on Saturday, March 3rd at Carpenter's Hall. Doors open at 6 p.m. with entertainment and dinner at 7 p.m. Rotarian Adam Bahr will be one of the actors in the Hollywood mystery.
The menu will include a choice of Chicken Cordon Blue or Citrus Salmon, tossed salad, baked potato, green beans amandine, rolls, and cherry cheesecake for dessert. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Contact Director Jeri Reeve at 641-774-5194 for more information or to purchase tickets.

Parents and Children First Luncheon, March 15th
The Lucas County Child Abuse Prevention Council (Parents and Children First) is preparing for their annual theme basket fundraiser. The fundraiser is used for matching grants received from Prevent Child Abuse Iowa.
On March 15th, a luncheon from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. will be held at Carpenter's Hall for the public. Please plan to attend and support this very worthy cause.

RYLA, April 17, 2012
Sophomores Emma Fuhs, daughter of Rotarian Veronica Fuhs and Paul Opheim, the son of Rotarian Ray Meyer, are planning to attend the one day leadership program on April 17th in West Des Moines at the Church of Hope.
David Apollo, our Rotary Youth Exchange student, will also be attending the leadership program.
RYLA which stands for Rotary Youth Leadership Awards brings groups of outstanding young men and women together in an informal atmosphere for a challenging program of leadership training, discussions, inspirational addresses and social activities designed to enhance personal development, leadership skills and good citizenship.

This week's Rotary Foundation Thought is about fundraising for PolioPlus Partners.
What would you do to eradicate Polio? Would you shave off all your hair? Rotarians in District 5040 did just that and raised $10,000 for PolioPlus Partners. Would you hike 2,658 miles over six months? Rotarian Chrissy Wallace of California did to raise money for Rotary's PolioPlus program. Would you cycle 4,165 miles on the TransAmerica Trail? Rotarian Robert Keegan of Tennessee did to benefit PolioPlus Partners at every opportunity possible. Many districts also gift some of their District Designated Funds to the polio effort.
Our District 6000 gave $49,968 in District Designated Funds (DDF) for PolioPlus last Rotary year.
Since the 200 million dollar challenge started in December 1, 2007 to the present, Rotarians in District 6000 have contributed $331,643.81. Our club has given $7,588.80 for this effort.

Future Vision Plan
The Foundation Trustees identified a growing need to focus efforts in order to achieve greater impact, more public recognition, and streamlined operations for improved efficiency. The new grant structure will enable Rotarian's to change people's lives, make the world a better place, and help meet the priorities and goals of Rotary's Strategic plan.
A three-year pilot began in July 2010, with 100 Rotary districts testing the plan. All districts will transition to the new model in July 2013.
Under Future Vision, the Foundation offers two types of grants. District grants are block grants that enable clubs and districts to address immediate needs in their communities and abroad. Global grants offer opportunities to participate in strategically focused, high-impact activities within the six areas of focus. Global grants range from $30,000 to $400,000.
The six areas of focus are:
Peace and conflict prevention/resolution
Disease prevention and treatment
Water and sanitation
Maternal and child health
Basic education and literacy
Economic and community development
