Abbey Kent, Program April 6th
Abbey Kent, daughter of Kevin and Debbie Kent of Lucas, graduated from Chariton High School and attended Iowa State University where she earned a Minor in Adult Child and Family Services and a Bachelor Degree in Health and Human Performance. She furthered her education by getting her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Des Moines University Her peers at Des Moines University recognized her by selecting her for the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program Service Award due to her dedication to community service. During her studies she has volunteered for numerous research projects including studies based on Parkinson's disease, Muscular Dystrophy, and Down Syndrome.
Abbey now resides in Cincinnati, Ohio and just completed a Pediatric Therapy Residency program at the Cincinnati Children's Hospital. She works at the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center where she develops programs to transition patients to their home while coordinating health team relations to optimize family centered care.

Just a reminder the Rotary board will meet this coming Friday, April 6th at 11 a.m. at Carpenter's Hall. This is a great way to make up a missed meeting and to learn more about Rotary.

RYLA, April 17, 2012
Sophomores Emma Fuhs, daughter of Rotarian Veronica Fuhs and Paul Opheim, the son of Rotarian Ray Meyer, are planning to attend the one day leadership program on April 17th in West Des Moines at the Church of Hope.
David Apollo, our Rotary Youth Exchange student, will also be attending the leadership program.
RYLA which stands for Rotary Youth Leadership Awards brings groups of outstanding young men and women together in an informal atmosphere for a challenging program of leadership training, discussions, inspirational addresses and social activities designed to enhance personal development, leadership skills and good citizenship.

This week's Rotary Foundation Thought is about how a Group Study Exchange can make history.
For the first time in southern African history, a Group Study Exchange (GSE) has taken place between two formerly conflicting countries. In November 2006 a GSE team from Zambia visited South Africa, signifying improved relations between the two countries. This exchange was made possible from a contribution of district designated funds from District 9210 to District 9300. With the end of Apartheid in South Africa, these young professionals are now able to talk to one another and share ideas and common interests that will help their countries look to the future in peace. Some of the greatest stories being told today started with a contribution to The Rotary Foundation. Thank you for making our club part of the Rotary story.

Future Vision Plan
The Foundation Trustees identified a growing need to focus efforts in order to achieve greater impact, more public recognition, and streamlined operations for improved efficiency. The new grant structure will enable Rotarian's to change people's lives, make the world a better place, and help meet the priorities and goals of Rotary's Strategic plan.
A three-year pilot began in July 2010, with 100 Rotary districts testing the plan. All districts will transition to the new model in July 2013.
Under Future Vision, the Foundation offers two types of grants. District grants are block grants that enable clubs and districts to address immediate needs in their communities and abroad. Global grants offer opportunities to participate in strategically focused, high-impact activities within the six areas of focus. Global grants range from $30,000 to $400,000.
The six areas of focus are:
Peace and conflict prevention/resolution
Disease prevention and treatment
Water and sanitation
Maternal and child health
Basic education and literacy
Economic and community development
