The Foundation Moment
This week's Moment is a personal experience from George and Colleen Wood from a recent trip to Cambodia. "Our guide was very excited to show us the lake. The boat was rickety, loud and the smell of boat fuel filled the air and left an oily sheen on the water. The water was brown and blackish. As we traveled along, we saw people fishing, bathing, washing clothes, and collecting drinking water in buckets. Skinny cows and water buffalo also made good use of the lake. Our guide proudly informed us that the water was multipurpose. George asked if our guide drank the water and the response was a quick no but said those that lived along the lake did and yes, sometimes, they did get sick but that was their way of life. Close to 3 thousand people lived around the lake with no clean water to drink. After helping to supply the Dominican Republic with sand filters for the last 7 years, it made us realize there is still so much work to do and glad that we have our Rotary Foundation to help in all areas of the world."
