Brian grew up on a farm south of Menlo, Iowa and he graduated from Stuart-Menlo High School in 1976.  While in high school he worked in Stuart and in Greenfield.  From 1977 to 1980 he worked for the Adair County Ambulance and the Adair County Sheriff's Office while farming east of Greenfield.

In 1980 he became the Adair Police Chief.  In 1983 he joined the Iowa State Patrol and was a Technical Accident Investigator from 1986 to 1990 when he became an Accident Re-constructionist, a title he as held for eight years.  In 1996 he became a hostage negotiator for the Iowa State Patrol and has been a Safety Education Officer since January 17, 2006.

 

Rotary International has made a new funding commitment of US$75 million over three years to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI).  The Canadian government announced a challenge initiative in which the Canadian International Development Agency and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will each contribute to the GPEI C$1 for every $1 raised by Canadian Rotarians up to $1 million, for a total of $3 million.  The Islamic Development Bank, a new donor to the polio eradication effort, also announced a contribution.
