Splash is a Youth Pod supported by the Dekko Foundation.  The Foundation developed the Youth Pod concept as a way of educating youth about philanthropy and service and giving youth the opportunity to gain real world experience.  Pods were established in counties where Mr. Chet Dekko had previously had manufacturing plants.  When it was established early in the 2000's, the group of selected youth, along with Bill Marner selected the name Splash, because they hoped to have a "ripple effect in the community".

Students are invited to apply to be a member of Splash in the spring of their 7th grade year.  The current application and selection format includes a formal application with letters of recommendation from a teacher and another adult in the community.  Applicants are then invited to participate in an interview process, where they are asked questions and also have the opportunity to ask questions of current members.  After the interviewees have left, the current members have further discussion and vote by secret ballot for the applicants who would best fit the needs of the group.  Students are members of Splash from 8th grade until graduation.

Splash is our partner in the Backpack Buddies project.

As a year end holiday gift, United Airlines is again offering a donation of 10 million miles to benefit charity miles partners.

Rotary has been United's partner for many years through the "Rotary Miles" program, which has provided free airfare for hundreds of children and adults in need of lifesaving surgery and other worthy causes.

From December 6 to December 25, you can vote once each day for Rotary on each of your devices such as laptop, smartphone, tablet, etc.  Charities receive a portion of the miles based on the percentage of the overall vote they receive.  So forward the link http://10millioncharitymiles.com/ to everyone you know.  Last year, we took second in the contest, receiving 2.5 million charity miles.

Your vote could help Rotary come in first this year in the 10 Million Charity Miles Giveaway!

Our friends on the east coast are suffering from the effects of Hurricane Sandy.  At this time, we are appealing for financial help that will be distributed among about six Rotary Districts  in the affected area.  Donations can be made to the District 6000 Humanitarian and Educational Foundation (501 3C account) and will be eligible to receive tax credit for the donation.

Make check payable to:
District 6000 H.E.F. and on the subject line - "Hurricane Sandy Relief"
