Angie Doyle Scar holds a position at the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) within the Office of Healthcare Transformation.  She serves as the coordinator for the Medical Home, Prevention and Chronic Care Management Advisory Council.  The council has been directed to make recommendations for state initiatives that would address medical homes, prevention and chronic care management.  She is also working on the team that is preparing for Iowa's Health Benefits Exchange.  Angie came to this position after several years serving as the Statewide hawk-i Outreach Coordinator.  Before her work at IDPH, Angie worked for the State Public Policy Group (SPPG) in Des Moines and focused on legislative policy, advocacy work and community grassroots outreach.

Angie graduated from Upper Iowa University with a degree in Psychology and is currently finishing a graduate degree in Public Health at Des Moines University.

Angie will be speaking on the "Health Benefits Exchange".

Mark your calendars for Roadside Cleanup (trash aerobics) Saturday, October 6th at 9:00 a.m.  We will meet at the airport to get the grabbers, vests and trash bags.

The boy scouts will be helping.

Nearly 49 million Americans don't have enough to eat - including 79 percent of students at Greene County High School in Georgia.  The Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties has launched Second Harvest to help neighbors who are struggling with grocery bills.  In 2008, the program began collecting food that otherwise would have been thrown away from grocery stores, restaurants, and hotels.  The food is distributed through local pantries and monthly events at the high school.  The Rotarians are working with Boy Scouts, the Humane Society, and Meals on Wheels, and the program has provided more than 500,000 pounds of food to families.

Our congratulations to Leah Dow who was a member of the 2012 Chariton High School Homecoming Court.  Leah is the daughter of Rotarian Shantel Dow.

"It must be borne in mind that the tragedy of life doesn't lie in not reaching your goal.  The tragedy lies in having no goal to reach.  It isn't a calamity to die with dreams unfulfilled, but it is a calamity not to dream.  It is not a disaster to be unable to capture your ideal, but it is a disaster to have no ideal to capture.  It is not a disgrace not to reach the stars, but it is a disgrace to have no stars to reach for.  Not failure, but low aim is a sin."
