Mark Richardson has worked for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources as a Fish Research Technician for over 31 years. 

He is a charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Chariton, where he has served as a church elder, financial secretary, & congregational president.

Mark has worked as a leader in the Chariton Boy Scout troop since 2001.  Currently, he serves as the troop’s Scoutmaster.  Prior to that, he served as an Assistant Scoutmaster & was a Den Leader for the Cub Scouts. He is also a member of Pheasants Forever & the Russell Sportsmen’s Club.

Mark’s hobbies include hunting, fishing, camping, woodworking, & reading – particularly anything on World War II.  He has had a long-standing interest in World War II.  Since sometime in Junior High School, Mark has collected over 1,900 books on World War II, and has read most of them!

His family includes his wife, Pam (married for almost 31 years) who works for Pheasants Forever & Quail Forever; daughter, Sara, who is finishing up her Master’s degree at UNI & will be married in September; son, Matt is working on a degree in Leisure, Youth & Human Services at UNI.  In addition, Mark’s mom, his two sisters & their families all live in the Des Moines area.

Ford Brockman, Marine Transport Captain has been a Chariton Rotarian since 2009.  Ford grew up and went to school in Chagrin Falls, Ohio.  He attended Kent State and received his Associate degree at National River Academy.  Ford has been employed with Marine Transportation Industry for 30 plus years, having worked on tugs and towing vessels of every possible type everywhere except on lakes.  He was primarily a pilot moving barges on the rivers.
Ford and his wife, Lori live northeast of Chariton.
He will give an update on the Mississippi River System, The Marine Industry, and his career on boats.

Cammeo Medici is a Chariton native and a graduate of Chariton High School.  Our club sponsored her as an Outbound Youth Exchange student to Italy in 2003-04.

Cammeo received the 2012-13 Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship and is in Bogota Columbia studying towards her Master's in Public Health at the University of Columbia.

The Rotary Board will meet on the third Friday of August which is the 16th instead of August 9th because of conflicts. 

This is an easy way to make up a missed meeting and to learn more about Rotary.

For three years, 100 districts have been testing Future Vision, a pilot of The Rotary Foundation’s new grant system, which was designed to increase Rotary’s effectiveness during the next century of service.

As the new Rotary year dawns, the future has begun. All districts begin using the simplified grant structure 1 July. Districts have already been completing the qualification process and qualifying their clubs. A number of clubs and districts have begun preparing and submitting grant applications.

There will be three types of grants: global, district, and packaged. You can learn about all three types, and get more details about the application process, on Rotary’s grant microsite .

Also on 1 July, new leaders will take office at the club, district, and international levels.

Ron D. Burton, of the Rotary Club of Norman, Oklahoma, USA, will become Rotary’s 103rd president and will encourage Rotarians to Engage Rotary, Change Lives . Read a profile of Burton from The Rotarian and download his convention speech.

Anne L. Matthews, a member of the Rotary Club of Columbia East, South Carolina, USA, will become the first woman to serve as vice president. Matthews, a former director of South Carolina’s Department of Education, is president of Matthews and Associates, an educational consulting firm. Read her biography.
