Dale Garner spent his early years hunting, fishing and trapping in his home state of Wisconsin and it was his passion for the outdoors that led him to pursue his dream of working in the natural resource field.  Dale received his B.S. degree in Wildlife Management at Humboldt State University in northern California and an M.S. and PhD in Forest and Wildlife Biology from S.U.N.Y. College of Environmental Science and Forestry at Syracuse, New York.  He has worked with a myriad of wildlife species across the country – from mice to moose and began working for the Wildlife Bureau with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources in 1995.  He is currently the Chief of Wildlife and while he spends most of his time now in an office setting, he still manages to enjoy the outdoors whenever time permits with his wife Rena and his two sons Gabriel and Everett.

Dr. Garner will be giving a presentation on Chronic Wasting Disease and the implications for Iowa’s prestigious white-tailed deer population.

The Rotary board will meet at 11:00 a.m. on Oct. 4th at Carpenter's Hall. 

This is a great way to make up a missed meeting and to learn more about Rotary.

Every year 6.9 million children die before reaching their fifth birthday.  Almost two-thirds of them - 4.4 million - die of infectious diseases, nearly all of which could have been prevented.

If Rotarians provide insecticide-treated nets, fewer children will succumb to malaria.  If we dig wells and address sanitation problems, more children will have clean water to drink and a lesser risk of falling ill with waterborne diseases.  And if Rotary clubs carry out effective nutrition projects, we can save some of the almost 2.6 million children who die each year from malnutrition.  We can do even more by providing a community with a trained birth attendant, a visiting nurse, a simple clinic, or a school food program.  These are direct ways to save children's lives.

Children are dying not because we can't help them, but because too often nobody does.  If every one of us does our part, we can challenge these high child mortality statistics and save the lives of thousands.

This September, Rotary celebrates New Generations Month, and there's no better time than now to focus on giving all children the opportunity to have the future they deserve.

Cammeo Medici is a Chariton native and a graduate of Chariton High School.  Our club sponsored her as an Outbound Youth Exchange student to Italy in 2003-04.

Cammeo received the 2012-13 Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship and is in Bogota Columbia studying towards her Master's in Public Health at the University of Columbia.
