Service Project
Proposals Wanted
by Drew,
Michelle
The Community Service Committee is requesting community
service proposals from YOU - Anchorage East Rotarians. If you have
a worthy cause, a favorite charity, or a service goal, submit a proposal
for consideration. Ground rules are as follows:
Your project must be a LOCAL community service project
- Anchorage or Alaska-wide. (With regrets, this program is not eligible
for international service)
Your project must be generally "ready to go"
- funds
must be distributable to the project before December 31, 2013.
Submit a written "Proposal"
- proposals are
limited to 2 pages in length and must include the
following information:
1. Who is the intended recipient group?
2. In what city/community will the project
take place or benefit?
3. Is it a Rotarian hands on project, a
money only request, or both?
4. An estimate of how much money will be
required to complete the project (how much money are you
requesting?)
5. A clear and concise explanation of the
project.
Submit your written proposal to Amy Slinker amyslinker@gmail.com. Please
be sure to include your name and contact information including phone
number so that you can be reached if there are questions about the
proposal.
Submission deadline is 4 pm on September 30, 2013.
Proposals recevied after the deadline will not be considered.
A proposal review committee will evaluate all proposals
submitted in conformance with with the rules above. That
committee will then select winning proposals for project funding and
submit these items to the board for approval at the October board
meeting. The exact amount of funding and number of projects to be
approved will be determined based on the number and size of requests
received. The projects could occur in late October, November, or
December; but must be completed by December 31.
So give us your ideas AER. It's your club. Let's
do YOUR projects!

AER Board
Approves $2,000 seed donation to Interact
by Drew,
Michelle
On Tuesday, August 27, the board voted to approve a $2,000
seed money donation to the West High Interact Club. Tam
Agosti-Gisler has been spearheading this project, working with the school
to establish programs and curriculum that will forward the goals and
tennants of Rotary in the High School, with a heave focus and emphasis on
SERVICE. They have planned various hands on learning programs and
hope to focus on both local and international service. The long
term goal includes expanding the project to other local high schools and
the board also encouraged program directors to involve other Anchorage
area Rotary clubs to participate.
If you would like to participate in Interact projects,
please contact Tam Agosti-Gisler for further information.

English Camp Volunteers
by Drew,
Michelle
Kathleen Madden Writes:
Hello Fellow
AERotarians!!
Last week I asked for
volunteers for our annual Rotary English Camps.
Thank you to those who were there and signed up to help.
Perhaps others who did
not attend the meeting would like to volunteer.
This is a fun,
easy and very rewarding project. We do many
verbal activities with men and women from many countries. Last
year we had 40 people from 18 different countries attend our camp.
You only need to be able to speak English, or help with meals or rides or
just come observe. Several of us put together the curriculum so you
only need to have a brief training and show up ready to roll.
IF you are interested, PLEASE contact Kathleen!
Possible
dates are Sept 14, Oct 5, Nov 2 or Dec 14th.

Kagerer Update
by Drew,
Michelle
Barbara Kagerer writes:
Hello, dear friends and family!
As many of you may
know, our 16-year old son Stephen is in Finland on a 1-yr. Rotary Youth
Exchange. He left Anchorage on August 3rd, and has been having a great
time!
He's started a
blog to keep a running commentary on his year there. If you're interested
in following the thoughts of a high school junior overseas ( ! ), here is
the web link:
His latest posting
has some berry picking photos that make me envious!
We are also
hosting a Rotary Youth Exchange student in our home. He's from Thailand,
and it's been a great experience for us. If you ever have the opportunity
to participate in this wonderful program, I highly recommend it.
Our love and best
wishes, thanks for your prayers for Stephen, too! If you wish to email
him directly, his email is:

Rotary
Foundation Thought
by Drew,
Michelle
Week of Aug 26
- This week’s Rotary Foundation Thought is
about: MATCHING
GRANTS
Even a small club can
make a big difference when participating i n a Matching Grant.
While Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Marana in District 5500 were
traveling in Zimbabwe, they found a man who was obviously hungry. These
Rotarians worked with the Rotary Club of Victoria Falls and The Rotary
Foundation to create a food garden that feeds an entire village and is
self-sustaining for future generations. Rotarian Randy Brooks says:
"It truly is amazing how our small club contributions translate into
opportunity for those in need of help. It is hard to not be overly proud
of Rotary, its members, and The Rotary Foundation."
