WELCOME TO PEMBROKE ROTARY, GLEN
Guests: Christina, our exchange student, Chiara,
her sister and Loredana, her mother.
Monika Foumat,
Exchange student from Hungary attending BHS. She presented a banner to the club
from Szombathely, Hungary
Visiting Rotarians: Reg Burrows from Hamilton
Glen Gibbons from
Sandys - Inducted today.
The club sang Happy
Birthday to Christina who celebrated her birthday the same day. The club was led in a spirited rendition by
Charles, ably assisted by Delano Ingham.
The meeting was a club
assembly and the various directors gave their reports.
Community — The Admiralty House Bathroom project took
centre stage owing to its non completion. Tom Trimingham had been busy with
revamping his own house but wants to finish the project as soon as possible. It
was pointed out that once the ceiling
was up the place could be painted. It was expressed by the director, Harry
Powell that the project got 'killed' by the hot summer starting with the
pouring of the concrete.
Past president, Delano
Ingham said that Rev. Hassell was desperate to have it finished as the folks
there have to go outside to use the bathrooms at present, often in bad weather
during the Winter. It was pointed out that we were merely assisting Government
and it was essentially a Government project. In passing it was mentioned that
James Tucker had left Works and Engineering.
Club Service — David Comery said that raffle prizes had been
ordered. It was reported that the last meeting for 2000 would be on 21st
December, a club assembly and that there would be no meeting on 28th December.
Treasurer — Gary Edwards said that there was nothing
to report. Christina's monthly allowance cheque had been given to her sister.
Membership — Past President, Marshall Minors, recently
resigned as Airport Manager, explained the nature of his recent illness. He said
it was atrial fibrillation thought to have been caused by an overactive
thyroid.
He explained that this
was the third episode in the last eight months and that the real cause is
largely unknown. It was thought this time that he should be observed while in
hospital where he was for 2 1/2 days. Marshall mentioned that he was starting
his own construction firm, Bermuda Building Services and said that the housing
for the fair lumber would be ok for the time being.
The non-attendance of
James Pitman was brought up and it was decided to write him a letter to the
effect that his membership in the club had been terminated.
Secretary — Vicki Abraham will be vacationing in
Australia with her family during the next four weeks.
Fair — Gary Taylor said that the raffle tickets
would be printed and be out before Christmas. 25,000 would be printed and he
hoped that the sales would net $100,000. The eight beneficiaries had been
informed.
Raffle won by Glen
Gibbons.
