A letter has also been received from The Haven requesting our assistance with their Tag Day on Friday, Feb. 16.  We will be located in front of the Phoenix.

Our speaker, Ms Neletha Butterfield was introduced by President-Elect Alan Pailing.

C.A.R.E. was started by Ms Butterfield in November 1982 in response to a need she saw in the Community to help students who had dropped-out of school; had learning disabilities and also those students who were gifted.  Her plan was to provide individuals with training in Computer Skills as well as Computer-Assisted Instruction.  Students progress automatically through the program and are then analysis and tutoring provided based on the result of this analysis.

Ms Butterfield pointed out that there is a segment of any society that will always fall through the cracks.  But the society must find a way to encourage these students and reach out to students at risk.

R.E.A.C.H. — Reaching Enables Adults to Club Higher.

To date Ms Butterfield has provided:

3600 students with Computer-Assisted Instruction

800 adults have been tutors

150 inmates have received their High School Diplomas.

290 students have received High School Diplomas

Ms. Butterfield told the group that she has had an 85% success rate.  She received a grant for $60,000 and this paid for 27 students.  This however was not enough and she is currently trying to raise $150,000 for a scholarship funds and essential resources; trained teachers and councilors.

Ms Butterfield was thanked by Jack Harris.

Raffle won by George Morton.
