Rotary Exchange Student Rosalie Schwank

Thank you all - and warm greetings from germany. Rosalie's mother writes the following -

Dear all,
We feel we must say to you all thank you very much for inviting  our daughter Rosalie to your country and into your families and for hosting her and caring for you over the whole year so cordially! It was such a good feeling for us during the the long time to know her well hosted so far away from home.

Now we have her back since some weeks and she told us so much about her exciting year, about your hospitality and your support in all thinkable matters. She has found so many good friends and has learnt to love your country so much that she is planning to return as soon as possible. And we know also very well that this year abroad offered her so many new experiences and impressions that she would never have found at home. So thank you again for your heartiness and for your generousness. We admire it very much, especially because we know very well that hosting a young boy or girl can be sometimes a bit of challenge as we also hosted three young boys in our family during the last year. But I think it is in the same way an enrichment for all and I believe that you see this in the same way.
All in all it is a great chance for all of us to meet young people coming from different countries and to learn more about their ideas and about their way of living. It an important step on our Rotarian idea of international understanding.

Rosalie is now feeling at home here again - but it really needed some weeks. Obviously she was enjoying her new life in your wunderful country so much that it was not very easy for her to leave you all and to leave her friends. And we really love her telling impressively about her experiences, about her life with her friendly host families, about her school and her friends and her Australia tour.... Sometimes she is still sad about her goodbye.

But meanwhile she was fortunately very busy with getting her driving licence - and yesterday she finally passed the test. Now she can't wait to get 18 next month and to drive by herself. And also the new school year will start soon and will demand her full engagement.

Now we like to add that it would be a pleasure for us to welcome the ones or the others of you here in Germany very warmly, if someone of you is planning to visit Europe and Germany. We are living in a nice village nearby some beautiful small cities that you may know, e.g. Bamberg, Rothenburg, Nürnberg. So please let us know about your tours:) We are looking forward to hearing from you.

Warmest regards from Germany (Bavaria - Franconia)
to you all and to your families,
Carola, Niko, Benedikt .... and Rosalie.

Pakistan Disaster Relief

Rotarians Send Help to Pakistan Flood Victims
Rotarians are reaching out to victims of the heavy monsoon rains in Pakistan, as the country continues to cope with its worst flooding in decades.

Major rivers have flooded valleys in about one-third of the country, claiming as many as 1,600 lives and washing away bridges, roads, and entire villages. The United Nations estimates that more than four million people have been left homeless.

Foundation Sets up Fund to Help Flood Victims in Pakistan

In response to the floods that have devastated Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province since 23 July, The Rotary Foundation Board of Trustees is accepting contributions to help fund Rotary projects that will support long-term disaster recovery in the affected areas. Rotarians, clubs, and districts can contribute both cash and District Designated Fund (DDF) allocations to the Rotary Pakistan Flooding Fund. This account is being administered through the Foundation's Matching Grants program.

  1. Contributions can be made using the attached form which will direct the funds through The Australian Rotary Foundation Trust. This form can be used for a contribution by cheque, direct debit or credit card and the contributor should simply write "Pakistan Disaster Relief" across the top to make his or her intentions known.
  2.
While these personal and corporate contributions are tax deductible, they will not   attract PHF points. Club contributions will also not attract PHF credits.

  1. All contributions will be consolidated in Evanston and used to fund matching grants that are specifically designed to restore normalcy to the lives of the Pakistan people and provide them with their basic requirements. These will be "second phase" programs and will not necessarily be of an immediate nature.
