Evolve at Typo Station was founded in 1993 and has been offering opportunities for young people to make positive changes in their lives ever since. Using our former cattle grazing property on the edge of the Alpine National Park, Typo Station, we challenge disadvantaged and at risk young Victorians with a 100km hike and pioneer style living, while at the same time teaching them life skills such as effective communication and anger management. We also apply Narrative and Bush Therapy practices to allow our young people to take control of their lives and their futures. I am one of only two marketing staff working for Evolve and my background is varied, with qualifications in events management and marketing, and having worked in these areas as well as in account management and anti-money laundering compliance. I have worked in the not-for-profit space previously for the Royal Agricultural Society, and growing up in rural Victoria, I love spending time up at 'Typo' and seeing our young folk develop in their two-to-three year journey with us.

Eritrean Refugee School Project

Eritrean Australian Humanitarian Aid (EAHA) is pleased to announce that the container of school supplies is finally on its way to Sudan. Despite a number of unexpected delays, we are happy to report that a large 40-ft container jam-packed full of school furniture, books, computers, sports equipment and other school supplies is on its way. The container itself has been donated to the project courtesy of Mount Scopus Memorial College, and will be used as a converted library when it arrives at Wadsherifay refugee camp.

One of EAHA's members and co-founder, Mr Anwar Alishek, left for Sudan in late December and has started work on the repair of school buildings, using funds donated to the project to purchase building material. A report and photos of the repairs will be sent in the next update. Another EAHA member and co-founder, Mr Berhan Jaber, left for Sudan this week (also self-funded!) and will meet the container at Port Sudan at the beginning of March and oversee its transportation and distribution at the schools.

Both Anwar and Berhan were featured in an article in The Age on 31 December about the project ("Refugees reach out from afar to aid their homeland" - http://www.theage.com.au/national/refugees-reach-out-from-afar-to-aid-their-homeland-20101230-19b5e.html)

We will be sending another update once the container reaches its destination. In the meantime,

Last Weeks Speaker-Ray Campbell

Last week we had the pleasure ofRay Campbell, National Commodore, Australian Volunteer Coast Guard speak at out meeting. www.coastguard.com.au
Ray informed that the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard is an organisation composed entirely of volunteers and guards the coast in the most effective way. That the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard has no law enforcement powers and enjoys a reputation for being helpful and courteous to all boat owners. That flotillas and radio bases are located from the Skardon River in the Gulf of Carpentaria, down the eastern sea board to Ceduna in South Australia, including Tasmania and major inland lakes and weirs. Expansion is continuing in areas of need. We would like to thank Ray for taking time to come to our meeting and give his presentation.
