RCAP members assist Rochester Farmer

29111 091.JPG

Last Saturday several members from RCAP travelled to Rochester to assist flood victims rebuild fencing on their 1800 acre property. All of the property except one of the houses was flooded and with 500 head of cattle contained in one small area, fencing needed to be restored quickly so the cattle could be moved to the one and only grassed area left on the farm. It was also  important to get these fences in place to stop the cattle wondering on the roads and rail line.
With the help of our volunteers and a Manitov Teleloader fences buried under mud and debris where pulled back/ draged /strained and restored to original position. One particular fence was draged from one side of the road to the other. Many bared wire cuts and nicks were experienced, many sunk in the mud and slush while working however at the end of the day we were all so pleased to see that we had restored all of the homestead fences in their original position.
Farmers Ian, Andrew, Belinda Lachlan and Mitchell (Rusty dog) from Burgoine Rd were most appreciate of our efforts they said it would have taken them at least 3 months to do the work which we achieved in one day. Andrew said his main losses were hay and income.  They also lost some cattle from mastitis due to not being able to milk the cowes for several days.
A big thankyou to our members President Mike Perry, Joan Robison, Ian Henry, Andrew Lilly, Stan and Vicki Teschke, Kerri and Rick Kornhauser, Henry and Loretta Michaelsen and Ian Wavish.
