Induction of New Member

Wednesday 20th April 2011 new member Chris Catchlove being inducted to the Rotary Club of Albert Park by President Mike Perry.
This Weeks Speaker - Indigo Daya

Back to Voices Vic Home

Indigo Daya  - Project Manager, Voices Vic

Indigo is a mental health trainer, public speaker, activist, and the leader of a peer-led mental health program for Prahran Mission.  Her work involves developing and implementing innovative new approaches to recovery which place the lived experience of people with mental illness at the forefront.  She is a passionate advocate for change, inclusion and human rights.

During her twenties, Indigo had a thriving career in the corporate world, including marketing, HR and project management.  However, at the age of 30 her career - and life - fell apart.  In 1999 Indigo had a mental health breakdown, and spent 5 years as a revolving door mental health patient.  She was on high levels of medication, given shock treatments against her will, became unemployed and lost all hope.

With the support of Prahran Mission, Indigo found her path to recovery, and with it, a new passion for bringing hope and genuinely effective and respectful recovery work to the mental health sector.

Australian Brandenberg Orchestra
by Kevin Mooney

The Australian Brandenburg Orchestra

M elbourne Recital Centre
Sun 22 May at 5pm

Phone:  1300 782 856

Ask for: Marelle Irvine

Codeword : "Rotary"

Price: $92.00 (ammended price

for A reserve seating, which is a 15% discount, plus a booking fee of $5.00.

Fellow Rotarians
As you are aware from the numerous announcements at weekly meetings since February this year, the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra (ABO) has again made an excellent offer to us for a theatre group on 22 May.

You should be aware that the offer from ABO is to provide us with category A seats immediately adjacent to the best seats at Melbourne Recital Centre.  I have sat in these seats and can assure all that they are excellent.

The offer does however expire on 30 April.  This date has also been announced several occasions at our weekly meetings since February.

For those wishing to make a reservation I strongly suggest that you do so on or before 30 April.  Any reservation made after that date will still have seats allocated in the prime area, but the ABO cannot guarantee that they will be in the area and at the price currently allocated to us.

As you would no doubt appreciate the ABO cannot hold our seats for us for much longer.  It must release them to the general public and its members to maximise its revenue and have a full house.  If it does not have bottoms on seats it can't pay its way!

This does not mean that our people cannot purchase after that date  They are only guaranteed the above seats up to that date.  ABO may however  make every endeavour to place our members and friends in the best possible seats in the category allocated to us, for any bookings made after that date.

Please note the details on the earlier email from Loretta for all reservations, which must be made directly to ABO and paid for by credit card at that time.  No one in our club has authority from ABO to make group booking, collect money and pass this on to ABO.

This is an excellent offer.  If you have not yet been to an ABO concert I can assure you that you that it is a memorable event.

We would like to thank both Helen and Mike for their contribution of this speech and taking the time to share their lives with us.

Cafe International Invite

Cafe International 2011

A Mysterious Murder International House
241 Royal Parade Parkville University of Melbourne

Saturday 7th May 2011

Tickets are available at AUD $80.00/person, inclusive of a three-course meal, free flow of beverages, and an intriguing night of performances and mystery.

A '20s Murder Mystery   We take this opportunity to formally invite you to a night of first class entertainment and fine dining, and to take delight in the vast variety of talent the students of International House have to offer. Every year, we donate a percentage of the money raised to a charity, and this year, we
have decided to donate 50% of the funds raised from Café International to
our
sister campus, International House in Queensland, due to the terrible damage they sustained during the Summer floods. International House Brisbane has been forced to close down for the entirety of the first semester of this year, and we are all eager to help them in their goal to reopen in July, so that they can start supporting students as International House Melbourne supports us.

Our doors will open at 6:30pm for some pre-dinner drinks and entertainment, with
dinner and the show commencing at 7:15pm.
