News from the Bookstore

NEWS FROM THE BOOKSTORE

A large box of  beautiful books was donated to the very happy librarian of Albert Park College.  Copies of literary  luminaires ranging from Shakespeare to James Joyce plus French and Science books will now grace the shelves of the new library.

Many thanks to our gorgeous Rosie for her donation of books, CDs and DVDs to the Bookstore.  Rosie has also crafted a colourful Tutenkhammen for our display of Egyptian books.

Dictionary 4 Life

Vocational Committee Project. Dictionary for Life (illustrated dictionary).  Mar 21, 2011 Albert Park rotarian Vicki Teschke presented grade 3 & 4 students at Port Melb Primary School with the Usborne Illustrated Dictionary. Inside the front cover the club had personalised the dictionaries with the students names with a name plate in the front showing they are from the RCAP together with a modified 4 way test for children. The aim was to improve literacy in an interesting/colourful/fun format. More photo's of this dictionary are available from the webpage.

Last Weeks Speaker - Nigel Lane

Last week we had the pleasure of Nigel Lane speak to us about Facebook. Nigel provided some statistics, valuable stories (good and bad) how to control a young persons usage together with the 7 top tips to ensure safety.

NIgel was most interesting and informative with many questions coming from his audience.  We would like to thank Nigel very much to making time to club to our club and for his great presentation.

Meet the GSE Team from Texas

Farewell function to the Group Study Exchange Team from Texas

Are there any rotarians who would like to represent our club at the farewell to the Group Study team from Texas on the 8th April.

Team leader John and team members  Suzanne, Michelle, John and Miles have developed many friends as they have toured our District. They have been one of the best prepared teams we have had in our District and they have been a credit to Rotary International, The Rotary Foundation and their District of 5840.

The venue is the All Seasons Motel McIvor Rd Bendigo.  We would like to have a full house for the farewell to the Texas team and the team would appreciate your support.

In response to the massive earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan on 11 March 2011, The Rotary Foundation established the Rotary Japan and Pacific Islands Disaster Recovery Fund, which will support recovery projects in the affected areas.

The 8.9-magnitude earthquake, Japan's largest in the last century, caused a devastating tsunami that swept over northern coastal towns.

Rotarians, clubs, and districts can contribute cash and District Designated Fund (DDF) allocations to the fund. Click HERE for details on Rotary Japan & Pacific Islands 2011 Disaster Recovery Fund. Download a PDF with answers to Frequently Asked Questions.
