This Weeks Speaker - Stephen Block
Stephen Block - "GEO MCO & quartet"
Stephen is one of Australia's most respected arts managers, with a history of achievement and innovation in the classical music sector.
His early career was spent in Adelaide, gaining experience in diverse fields including theatre, tourism and government.
In 1997 he had the opportunity to follow his passion for music when he became the inaugural GM of the Australian String Quartet (ASQ), the only full-time chamber ensemble of its type in the country.
Over ten hectic years Stephen built the reputation of the ASQ and its program to the point where in 2007 he was able to hand over to his successor, secure in the knowledge that the ASQ was in its strongest ever position in its 22 year history.
The following three years were spent as Head of Marketing and Partnerships with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, where he had the opportunity to work in a much larger organisation, as well as enjoying the relaxed lifestyle of Hobart.
However, the challenge of building the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra (MCO) to realise its full potential was one that he couldn't resist, and early in 2010 Stephen relinquished his role in Tasmania to become Chief Executive Officer of MCO.

Ambassadorial Scholar seeks accomondation. by David Gorman
RD9800 Foundation Committee
Ambassadorial Scholars Co-ordinator 2010-11
Would anyone like to home-host an incoming Ambassadorial Scholar for a week in late January? and possibly go to the Australian Open tennis with him as well, if you are so inclined:
Please find details of accomondation request below -
My name is Morgan Wiggers and I am from Jackson, Mississippi here in the United States. I have received a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship to study abroad and plan on spending my time in Brisbane. However, I plan on coming down to Melbourne the week of the Australian Open (22-31 January) so that I can see Melbourne and see some great tennis! As of right now, I do not know anyone there or have a place to stay. Would you have any recommendations for me on housing. It also might be neat to come to a Rotary Club meeting in Melbourne. Anyway, just wanted to try you and see if you could help me out.
thanks,
Morgan Wiggers

Christmas Hampers - Sacred Heart Mission
Christmas Hampers and Gifts for clients and residents.
Every year Sacred Heart Mission St Kilda distribute 500 Christmas hampers and gifts to the people who use their services. If you are interested in making up a hamper or providing a gift please see the attached list.
If making up a hamper please include only the items listed as these have been specifically requested. If you are providing a gift from the list please don't wrap it as we will not know what is enclosed and will have to open it anyway.
Hampers and gifts can either be dropped off at the Day Centre at 2/99 Grey Street between 9-5 on weekdays only in the first 2 weeks of December. They will not be able to accept any gifts after then as we simply don't have the storage space.
Or Yvonne Flanders RCAP will collect at the Clubs Xmas party and the following week. Yvonne's contact details as below.
If you are droping off at the Day Centre you need to call Peter Mercer on 9536 8418 pmercer@sacredheartmission.org to arrange for him to open the Day Centre for you as it won't be manned otherwise.
Your support and generosity will help Sacred Heart Mission extend the Christmas spirit at a time when poverty can be most heavily felt.
