The Ewings Walk by Faith, Not by Sight

Native Texans Larry & Melinda Ewing live and epitomize the fourth object of Rotary: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service. Devout Christians with a heart for young people, the Ewings applied and were accepted to serve overseas with the International Mission Board. They are currently stationed in Gyor, Hungary where they teach English and host bible studies as a means of ministering to the local population. Their ministry is focused on - but not limited to - working with university students. In a city with a population of 130,000 there is no shortage of people who are exploring or experimenting with new and emerging systems of belief. Larry and Melinda have found that people of all ages yearn for hope and search for the truth. They eagerly provide an open door and a venue, which allow God to show Himself through the Word. Thanks to Teresa Clemons for another fabulous program!

Hold-Up Report: Jim Haugen hosted David & Heidi Platz from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The couple was held up while traveling through Amarillo on their Harley and enjoyed an evening of good ol' Texas hospitality. Thanks for hosting our guests this week, Jim!!

Bar-Z Winery event was well-attended and it was reported that a great time was had by all. Kudos to Mr. David Ellis for coordinating the event!

Cal Harriman drew the 9 of diamonds in the Foundation drawing. Cal would like to invite all Rotarians to attend a production of Texas! for free (yes, FREE) on the evenings of Friday, August 2nd & Friday, August 16th. This represents an extraordinary opportunity and is made possible by our friends at Cal Farley's Boys Ranch. Please RSVP to Gina Rodriguez. All guests will sit in a special section with staff and residents of the ranch.

Melvin Edes and Club President, Renee Wilson announced a new fundraiser, which will be rolled out in the next couple of weeks. All members will receive raffle tickets to sell for a chance to win $1,000! Tickets will be sold for $10 each. The winner will receive the $1,000 grand prize. The person who sells the most tickets will receive $500 and the person who sells the winning ticket will also receive $500. Proceeds from the raffle will benefit a local charity or project. Legend within District 5730 has it that nobody can beat our own Melvin Edes at selling the most tickets. Let's test him on this!!!

Many thanks to the following for their service this week:
David O'Dell and Gay Chalfant for leading us in song.
John Tyson for providing the invocation.
Melvin Edes and Jeff Neeley for greeting us.
Rosemartha Cates for introducing guests and visiting Rotarians.
Teresa Clemons for serving as July program chair.
Gina Rodriguez for selling Rotary Foundation drawing tickets.
