Wheels for June 16
by John Kanelis

Paging Dr. Nickens. Have you heard of a concierge doctor? We had one speak to us. Dr. Wes Nickens told us how he is on call 24/7/365 for his patients. "We try to provide a relaxed atmosphere for our patients," Wes told us. He and his partner meet with patients a minimum of 30 minutes per visit. You can't get to the doctors' office? No sweat, they'll come to where you are. It's like the old days. Wes said his practice has helped reduce emergency room visits and hospital stays for his patients. It's a great concept, Wes. Thanks for sharing it with us.

David Norris' upcoming term as district governor is coming up. Rotarians and their spouses are invited to attend David's installation as governor on Monday, June 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Amarillo Club's 30th floor. Installation will occur roughly at 6:15 p.m., followed by a reception with wine, beer and hors d'oeuvres. Please RSVP to Candy Norris via email at cno2318@aol.com. Let's give David a wonderful Rotary send off as he begins this exciting new assignment on behalf of our district.

Our ranks just keep growing. Rocky Gafford is our newest Rotarian. Scott was introduced by Dale Bippus under the classification of Take and Bake Pizza. Rocky owns Papa Murphy's Pizza. Welcome to the Club, Rocky.

Hold-Up 2011 continues. We didn't have a Hold-Up "victim" this week. The event continues through the run of the musical "Texas." Thanks go to Hold-Up chairman Jeff Lester, and to Steve Clark and Mike Abdoo for arranging for lodging and dining for our Rotarians Hold-Up guests. And a big thanks also go to Amarillo Police Sgt. Brent Barbee and Cpl. Jerry Neufeld who serve as our "arresting" officers at the Travel Info Center on I-40/Airport Boulevard.

Don't forget our change of command set for June 30. President Jake Richards hands the gavel over to President-elect John Early as we welcome the new board of directors and officers to begin the new Rotary year.

A big thanks go to the following Rotary Club members for their help with this week's meeting: Jake Richards for presiding; Jess Ghormley for leading us in song; Gay Chalfant for playing the piano; Lane Boyd for his invocation; Scott Ballard for introducing guests and visiting Rotarians; Jim Haugen for selling drawing tickets; and Dale Bippus and Jeff Neely for greeting us.
