Wheels for June 28
by John Kanelis

Our annual rite of passage has occurred and the gavel has been passed. Club President Renee Wilson took the oath of office along with our other officers in a ceremony presided over by Past District Governor Doyle Moore. Renee takes over from immediate Past President John Early, who finished with a joke-a-thon (in honor of his beloved late father, Allen Early). Mike Good assumes the title of president-elect. The directors for the coming year are David Ellis, Corinna Isbell, Pete Boyce and David O'Dell, with Rocky Gafford and Gay Chalfant serving as directors at large. Doyle continues as our secretary, Gary Mitchell as treasurer and Basil Walker as sergeant at arms. And we thank Wes Knapp, Jeff Lester, Julie Ontiveros and Rosemartha Cates for their service on the board in the past year.

As for Past President Early, wear your Past President's pin with pride. Well done, Mr. President. And all the best to President Wilson and her team as the new Rotary year begins.

The club recently lost these members due to resignation: Mike Callahan, Matt Sherwood and Jim Haugen all have bid adieu because of retirement, relocation and time commitments. Hope you all can find your way back into Rotary.

However ... we do have a new member proposal. It comes from Melvin Edes, who proposes Barry Vernon, a sales rep for H&T Foods. Barry comes to us under the classification of Meat Brokerage. Welcome, Barry.

Our annual Hold-Up program keeps making friends for life. The latest friends are Robert and Shirley Pullen, from Winnsboro, S.C., who were held up by Amarillo Police Cpl. Jerry Neufeld and Capt. Jeff Lester at the Travel Info Center at I-40 and Airport Blvd. The Pullens' hosts for the evening were Teresa Clemons and Corinna Isbell who took them to dinner at Feldman's and then to the musical "Texas" in the canyon. The Pullens have been honeymooners for the past 58 years, and they graced us with their attendance at lunch the following day. Glad you had such a great time, folks.

Congratulations to Lea Ann Fulton for winning the Heads and Tails game. Lea Ann was the last contestant standing after several Rotary Coin flips. She pocketed about $140, with the rest of the money going toward the Rotary International Foundation.

Don't forget the Bar-Z Winery after-hours get together on July 12. We'll have food, fellowship, beverages and a tour of the winery. We will have no noon meeting that day.
