Wheels for June 7 by Julie Ontiveros
Keeping history relevant in a changing world was the focus of Cliff Vanderpool, Director of the Panhandle Plains Historical Museum in Canyon. The PPHM strives to present interesting and unbiased exhibits that provide life-enriching learning experiences. As Cliff pointed out, history stays the same, but our interpretation changes and is based on our own experiences. The PPHM is the largest history museum in Texas and has visitors from all over (40% of visitors are from outside of the region, with 3% being international patrons). Learn more about the wide variety of offerings at www.panhandleplains.org, including the current Texas Impressionism special exhibit and the newly renovated Pioneer Town that will reopen soon.
Our Rotary After Hours event at the Bar Z Winery is scheduled for Thursday, July 12, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Maps will be provided at a later date. Heavy hors d'oeuvres, wine and beer will be served and we will take a tour of the winery. Cost will be $20 per person for Rotary members, and $35 per person for non-Rotarians. No noon Rotary meeting on July 12. Please RSVP to Gina by July 2.
Still looking for volunteers for the Annual Rotary Hold-up. Mel Darnell shared with us the guests he and his wife Cindy hosted from San Francisco this week. Thanks, Mel! We just need hosts for June 27, as all other spots are filled (great job, Jeff!). If you wish to sign up to be a host, contact Jeff Lester at Jeff.Lester@amarillo.gov.
Your help is requested on July 4 for a fundraiser for Kids Cafe at Wonderland Park. To volunteer for a two hour shift that day, please contact Renee' Wilson or let Gina know. You family is invited to attend too!
Kudos this week to: President-Elect Renee' Wilson for presiding. David O'Dell and Gay Chalfant for leading us in song. John Kanelis for providing the invocation.
Dale Bippus and Jeff Neelyfor greeting us. Cal Harriman for introducing guests and visiting Rotarians. John Kanelis again for serving as June program chair.
Basil Walker for selling Rotary Foundation drawing tickets. And, we had a winner for the drawing...Bobbi from the Amarillo Club picked the Ace of Spades!
