Wheels
for March 1 by Julie
Ontiveros
Auctions have been
around for a long time we learned from Auctioneer
Spanky Assister, Chairman and Founder of Assister
Auctioneers. Auctions have progressed from marriage auctions
in 500 B.C. to the Roman Empire in 193 A.D. to today, where
about everything you can think of is sold at auction. Research
shows more than half of us have attended an auction at some
point in our life. Though many people auction items for
reasons like debt, divorce, death and distress, most attendees
are in it for the fun time. Spanky's love and passion for the
business has resulted in his becoming one of the most dynamic
and sought after auctioneers in the world. He has conducted
auctions across the United States, England, Canada, South
America, Puerto Rico and South Africa. In the summer of 2007,
Spanky's global impact on the auction industry was recognized
when he became one of the youngest inductees into the National
Auctioneers Association Hall of Fame and the Texas Auctioneers
Association Hall of Fame. Thanks, Spanky, for your entertaining
and informative program.
Don't forget this
year's district conference in Ruidoso, N.M. Here's a link to
the more info for the event to be held June 8-10,

The Rotary Club of Amarillo is encouraging
funds for the local Foundation, which has helped pay off
the club's long-term commitment to the YMCA's development of
Rotary Park. We had envelopes on our lunch tables to make it
easier to help restore the Foundation fund. It's tax
deductible. Just contribute what you can to help our
Foundation benefiting the Rotary Club of Amarillo.
Big thanks go this week to: President
Elect Renee Wilson for presiding (and playing piano!) in
President Early's absence. David O'Dell for leading
us in song. Mike Good for providing the invocation
Dale Bippus and Mel Darnell for a warm greeting .
Mike Abdoo for introducing guests and visiting
Rotarians. Pat Freeman for selling Foundation
tickets, and to Rocky Gafford for serving as
program chairman for March.
