Wheels for March 22
by Julie Ontiveros

There is a lot going on in Amarillo according to Mayor Paul Harpole.
The city grew 20,000 people in the past ten years and more growth is anticipated over the next ten years. State of the art facilities are going up downtown in the form of a convention hotel, parking garage, activity center/ballpark and other projects. What's happening in the Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone totals about $171 million worth of projects. This will bring in lots of folks and that helps the whole city. Streets are being repaved, the zoo is transformed and we have the lowest tax rate in Texas. We all know Amarillo is a great place to live and these new changes are exciting. Thank you to our Mayor and to Rocky and Mark for another great program.

This is reminder that the nominations for the 2014-15 District Governor must be postmarked by March 30, 2012. The guidelines and instructions as established will be followed in nominating a Rotarian for Governor. They are also posted on the district website (www.ridistrict5730.org). Nominations must be mailed to the District Committee Chair PDG César M. Caro. Please mail to: PDG César M. Caro, 100 Mesquite Court, Sweetwater, TX 79556.

We are sorry to report the passing of Rotarian John Maynard on March 21. His funeral will be Saturday, March 24, 11 am at First Presbyterian Church.

Please turn in your ticket stubs to Gina for the travel voucher raffle before April 1.

Double congratulations to DG David Norris on his promotion to Chief Operating Officer at Happy State Bank and for a very successful Million Dollar Dinner to the tune of $852,000!
