Wheels for May 26
by Mollie Barney

Who knows a student at AISD that is AOK?! Susan Stevenson, Executive Director of the Amarillo Education Foundation, told us all about the wonderful things they're doing to teach kids about Random Acts of Kindness (AOK). She also told us about the different ways they're raising money for Amarillo ISD schools. Their largest fundraiser is the "Walk For Education," which raised $90,000 last year! Other fundraisers include the Sunrise Breakfast, the Camaro Giveaway, among many others. Don't forget to participate in these fundraisers because a large portion of the money raised goes right back to the schools. Thanks to Susan for the informative program!

OK, we still don't have a winner for the Rotary Foundation drawing. The pot contains some serious money, well over $3,000. I have a feeling that attendance will continue to increase as the pot grows! Remember, if your ticket is drawn, and you pull the Ace of Spades out of the dramatically diminished deck, you get to pocket half of what's in the pot. The other half, of course, goes toward the Foundation and helps fund its great work around the world.

Our numbers continue to grow! We welcomed the newest member of the Rotary Club of Amarillo this week! Bill Chudej introduced Teresa Clemons, classification WTAMU Development, to the group. Teresa is a graduate of West Texas State, wife to Charlie, and mom to dogs, Bob and Amy. Welcome to the club, Teresa!

Congrats are in order for our newest Blue Badger! Johnny Crowley, classification, Banking, received his Blue Badge this week. Congrats, Johnny!

While we're at it, let's mention a new member proposal! Jake Richards has proposed Richard Walton, of Neely, Craig & Walton, classification, Insurance.

A big thanks to the following Rotarians for their help with this week's meeting...Jake Richards for presiding; Jess Ghormley for leading us in song; Renee Wilson for playing the piano; Dick Marcear for his invocation; Greg Green for introducing guests and visiting Rotarians; Gary Mitchell for selling drawing tickets; and Dale Bippus and Jeff Neely for greeting us.
