A great meeting started with everyone trying The Big Texan famous 72 oz steak. Danny and Bobby Lee told the group about the longtime local business. These self-proclaimed "carnies" shared how their father started The Big Texan in 1960 with the philosophy that "the cowboy never goes out of style." That was 50,000 72 oz steak challenges ago (72 oz = 4 1/2 lbs of steak!) The Lee brothers also talked about the importance of listening to their guests - it's where they get many good ideas. The Rotary Club of Amarillo has a long standing tradition of making a
donation to Boys Ranch during the Christmas season. This year, that
donation will take place on Dec. 1. If you wish to be a part of this,

The Rotary Club board of directors is still evaluating whether to recommend some changes regarding our meeting. There will be a vote soon among the members on whether to approve an increase in our dues, while remaining at the Amarillo Country Club, or moving to a new location, at the Amarillo Club. We're considering a possible nominal dues increase, with a reduced lunch offering; or we might be asked to vote on a greater increase in dues in return for the country club restoring its weekly lunch offerings. The other option might be to vote on whether to switch to the Amarillo Club at the Chase Tower. To help in this decision, we will evaluate the higher priced lunch at the Amarillo Country Club the next two weeks (no meeting on Thanksgiving).
In addition, we will be starting a trial by meeting at the Amarillo Club on December 1, 15 and Jan 5 (we will have the Christmas dinner there on 12/8.)
