Wheels for Oct 27
by John Kanelis

We had a side-splitting program with three folks telling us that laughing is a great therapy. Danny Mize, Tonya Good and Shirley Greenfield led us through a series of games designed to show us how much better we can feel if we just laugh it off. "Laughter is very good for you." said Tonya, who's involved in hospice care in Amarillo. It doesn't matter is real or faked, she said. "Both types of laughter are helpful" in creating better physical and emotional health. Laughter puts oxygen into our body, according to Shirley. She encouraged us to "try laughing for 30, 40 or 60 seconds. You'll feel a little tired, but it'll be good for you." Thanks for the great program.

Congrats belong to Bart and Christy Boxwell on the birth of their sixth child, a daughter.

And let us welcome our newest Rotarian, Jeff Busjahn, who comes to us under the classification Retirement Community. Jeff -- who was introduced by President John Early -- is the new director of the Craig Methodist Retirement Community. Welcome aboard, Jeff.

The Rotary Club of Amarillo has a long standing tradition of making a donation to Boys Ranch during the Christmas season. This year, that donation will take place on Dec. 1. If you wish to be a part of this, please make your check payable to THE ROTARY CLUB OF AMARILLO, and give it to Gina, or mail to The Rotary Club of Amarillo, 301 S. Polk, Suite 640-N, Amarillo, TX  79101. Thanks in advance for your generosity.

The Rotary Club board of directors will be deciding soon whether to recommend some possible changes regarding our meeting. There will be a vote soon among the members on whether to approve an increase in our dues, while remaining at the Amarillo Country Club, or moving to a new location, at the Amarillo Club. We're considering a possible nominal dues increase, with a reduced lunch offering; or we might be asked to vote on a greater increase in dues in return for the country club restoring its weekly lunch offerings. The other option might be to vote on whether to switch to the Amarillo Club at the Chase Tower. Stay tuned.

The Rotary Foundation drawing pot is now past $1,000. Remember: If your ticket is picked, you get to draw for the Ace of Spades and if you get the Big Card, you pocket half of what's in the pot.

Many thanks this week go to:

President Early for presiding
David O'Dell for leading us in song.
Buddy DeFord for his invocation.
Mary Emeny for introducing our guests and visiting Rotarians.
Erv Bergen for selling Foundation tickets.
Rocky Gafford and Jeff Neely for greeting us.
