Wheels for Sep 1

One important centerpiece of the Panhandle economy is the oil and gas industry. Wayne Hughes, Executive Vice President of the Panhandle Producers & Royalty Owners Association (PPROA) shared how the organization has been a strong advocate for independent oil and gas producers, support companies and mineral royalty owners in the Texas Panhandle, western Oklahoma and southwestern Kansas since 1929. Its primary mission is to inform the general public, community organizations and individuals of the dynamic role the independent oil and gas industry plays in the state and the nation. The Association represents its membership legislatively in Austin, and through partnerships with similar groups, in bordering states and in the nation's capitol. (pproa.org) Wayne also shared how protection of the lesser prairie chicken could potentially affect how the oil and gas industry conducts business. Thanks for a very informative program.

Remember, President John Early needs us to think about service. It is to all of us in the Rotary Club to consider ways we can serve our community. It's time to think hard about how we can expand our outreach into the community, to serve others. John is asking that we look to our respective networks of friends, associates and contacts and consider prospective projects we can take on as a service organization. Be thinking about that for the next two weeks. John plans to discuss these ideas at our Sept. 25 meeting.

Welcome to new member Dr. Burt Palmer, Senior Pastor at Polk Street United Methodist Church! Many thanks this week go to: Wes Knapp, past President, for leading the meeting in President Early's absence; to David O'Dell for lending his voice to lead our singing; to Renee for her piano accompaniment; to Rocky Gafford for his opening prayer; to Marilyn Ault for introducing of guests and visiting Rotarians; to Bob Russell for selling tickets and to Dale Bippus and Mark Odle for greeting us as we arrived.

Our thanks as well to Greg Green for serving as program chair for September.
