Wheels for Sept 8
by Denise Blanchard

Calling 911 is better than it used to be thanks to the Amarillo Emergency Communications Center. Judith Weshinsky-Price, Manager for the Center brought us a program today on the 911 system and the communications that take place within the system to make sure that Amarilloans get help quickly. Over 400,000 calls came into the center last year, statewide 53,000 calls had to do the missing children. Under Judith's direction, the Center has implemented the standards set by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to see that every call about a missing person is taken seriously so that accurate information can be given to the police to aid in the search. She encouraged Rotarians with a smart phone and internet access to sign up to receive safety alerts from the police department by going to nixle.com

John Huffaker has proposed Dusty Sloan, Branch President of First State Bank of Groom for membership. We are sad to accept the resignation of Brent McClure, who has several obligations this year that will need his time. We hope to see him back when his calendar clears up some!

Many thanks this week go to: John Early
, President, for presiding over the meeting today; to David O'Dell for lending his voice to lead our singing; to Renee Wilson for her piano accompaniment; to Dorothy Puckett for her opening prayer; to Mike Abdoo for introducing of guests and visiting Rotarians; to Tom Higley for selling tickets and to Dale Bippus and Jeff Neeley for greeting us as we arrived.

Our thanks as well to Greg Green for serving as program chair for September.

Ticket winners this week include Don Mullins who drew the Queen of Hearts, Bill Archinal who won the Edes Jerky, Mark Haworth who won a pizza from Pappa Murphy's, and Steve Clark who won a pair of tickets to the upcoming opera.
