Happy Thoughts
Mary Black was happy to
accompany her mother to a Science and Education conference held recently
in Philadelphia. The bonus of the conference was that the mother
and daughter team accepted a check from the Toyota Corporation in the
amount of $10,000 to be used for the Science Park at the West
Parish School.
Cayte Ward was happy the AGH
fundraiser "Dining on the Rocks" is gearing up to be a success
again. If you have not signed up, check with Cayte for time and
date.
Ruth Pino was happy to be
the 3rd top real-estate agent in her office again. Congrats Ruth!
Jon Morse attended the rally
held last Sunday at City Hall in support of our troops. Jon was
happy to see such a display of patriotism in Gloucester.
Jim McKenna was happy to
announce that his wife had her first ultrasound and the couple will be
expecting their first baby this summer. Congrats to the McKenna's!
Jim McKenna was also happy
that Joe Ciolino took out nominations papers today for re-election
to the Ward One seat on the City Council. Jim said he will be
looking forward to working with Joe again. (Jim, thank you for the
kind words!)
Bruce Horne was happy his
Rotary contacts recently came in handy. Bruce has been
complaining about broken equipment at the YMCA for some time with no
results. The solution was to tell fellow Rotarian Rick Doucette,
the Y manager, about the problem - which was solved
quickly.
Oscar Pagen was happy to be
taking up residence at Shore Cliff. Oscar is happy with his new
digs.
Anniversaries & Birthdays
No birthdays or
anniversaries were reported today.
Fines
President David fined
himself again for not remembering to bring the Rotarian
birthday list.
Greg Bover was
fined for attending his PEPS conference this weekend.
The Rockport Rotarians
attending today were all fined $4. Welcome to Gloucester!
Steve Kaity was
fined $2 for being Steve today.
Don Sudbay Jr. was fined for
losing his old badge and having the club order him a new one.
Vacations
Pat Thorpe went to
Disney World with his family. Scott Chernov went to Newport with
his fiancee' and spent some quality time with his parents.
Scott is so impressed that his fiancee' keeps on spending time with his
family and still wants to marry him. That is true
love!
A Rotary Moment
The next Rotary Moment will
be given by Steve Curcuru, followed by the week after by Alex Delis.
Club News
President David announced
the second reading for proposed new member attorney Sal Fronterio, and
the first reading for Neil Mathews of Standard Electric. If any
member has a question or comment about the proposed new members please
contact President David.
President David had a
challenge to members. Any member who can beat selling 140
tickets in a day will receive a $5 reward from him.
President David hold the title and challenges any one to top him.
The board decided to
donate $500 to the East Gloucester Elementary Playground
Fund. The donation will be given as part of our June
disbursements, but a commitment was needed in advance in order to have
our Rotary Club posted on a sign listing sponsors.
Winners and Losers... No one
won the beverage of choice. Joe Ciolino won the
money, and the flowers were given by President David to Marie Melanson,
the wife our guest speaker. No winners today in the card raffle.
Speakers.... John Dugger
was happy to introduce our guest speaker today, Bill Malonson, the
founder and director of the Twelve Step Education Program of New
England. Bill runs a home in several cities - Billerica,
Leominster, Quincy, Salem, Saugus and Woburn. The homes welcome the
homeless addict seeking recovery, and the dual diagnosed- those
diagnosed with mental illness and addiction.
Lunch Rating... Meals
will be rated by 5 stars, with 5 stars being the best. Today we dined
on salad and baked fish. The dinners at my table gave the food 5
+++ stars. When asked what would improve the meal the dinners
suggested the meal was excellent.
