Happy Thoughts

Jim Marr was happy that Brad Pierce  cleaned up the Rotary traffic island.  Bruce Horne was happy to have his best lunch hour playing a few rounds of golf.  Sal Frontiero was happy to have moved his office to Lawyers Row on Pleasant Street.  Scott Chernov was happy to see Interact Club members at Shaw's.  Charlie Foster's wife Marylyn won the Interact Raffle.  Christopher Farmer was a happy man planning his vacation until  he received some unhappy news from the state, which could once again shortchange the Gloucester School System.  Christopher was a loss for words after hearing the budget news.  Rick Doucette was speechless with Rudy's comments.  Roger Armstrong was happy the WW2 memorial is being delivered today and is becoming a reality. Cheryl Collins was happy to be buying a 2 piece bathing suit for her vacation.  Perry Clark was happy about one son's picture, and the birth of another.  Mike Costello was happy the Chamber's House and Garden Show was very successful in its first year.    Ruth Pino was also happy to have sold  98 "Shop 'till you Drop"  tickets.  Greg Bover is happy his niece passed Navy Officer of the Deck boards on her ship in the Persian Gulf.  Greg is also happy the ship is coming home from the gulf.  David Rose is happy the Docksiders are on their way to Los Angeles to perform at Disneyland.  Joe Parisi was happy to announce that Jon Morse and Charlie Foster have been selected Paul Harris Fellows this year.  The reception/cinner will be held on May 17th, see Joe Parisi for details.  Congrats to all!

    Fines

President Jim gave out his seatbelt fine, and the same Rotarian paid up yet again.  Joe Parisi paid a fine for a photo of his son in the GDT's.  Joe Parisi was also fined for activities unbecoming a Rotarian at the Rotary spaghetti supper.  Club members not attending the District Conference were fined today.  Members who have not signed up to sell tickets at Shaw's were fined.

     Club News

Don Sudbay Jr., presented Susan Oleskie, from the North Shore Health Project, a check for $1300 which was raised at the Pancake Breakfast.

The Shop'til You Drop fundraiser is off and running.  Please plan on working the Rotary table at Shaw's Eastern Avenue or Railroad Avenue.  Supplies are kept on location, just take a minute to sign up with Steve Kaity or Leo Bergeron,  or just drop by, check with the store manager,  and start selling whenever you have some free time.  The drawing date is April 30, and the drawing location will be the Gloucester Pride Stride event at Good Harbor Beach.  The shopping spree will be on May 13 at the Eastern Avenue Shaw's at 6:30 in the morning, yes 6:30 am.  The fundraiser is one of our largest, we need participation from all members.  The Stage Fort Park Playground Re-Construction Project will benefit from the money raised.

May 6 (Saturday) is the date for us to assemble to maintain the band stand at Stage Fort Park.   This "sprucing up the bandstand" is a yearly event.  The job involves scraping paint, painting, and landscape work.  Members can come for an hour, early or late, just plan on helping out, please!  The work is done in the morning and is completed by noon.

May 13th is the date for the Rotary Track Meet being held at Beverly High School.  The meet is usually held in Gloucester, but the GHS field is wet so the meet is  going to be held in Beverly.   Rotarians are needed to help out with running the event. Please see George Roark, who is coordinating the event.

May 17th is Paul Harris Dinner this year.  Please join us in honoring Jon Morse, Charlie Foster, and a player to be named by the Interact Club.  Save the date! Check with Joe Parisi to sign up.  New members - this is a very important evening for the club, please come stag, with a spouse or significant other - just make sure you attend!

June 6 at 6 PM is the date and time for the last Director's Meeting in President Jim's year.  The meeting is very significant in that the funds we have all been raising this year will be disbursed by the club's directors.  The evening will also include a pot luck supper.  Board members and spouses or significant others are encouraged to attend.  The location is  at the Chez Ciolino, 28 High Popples Road. Check with President Jim for details.

Winners and Losers...  Bruce Bain gave a Life Refection today.  Rudy Macchi won the money, and Joe Parisi won the flowers.  No winners today in the card raffle.

Speakers....  Roger Armstrong introduced Frank McCracken, who is organizing a fundraiser for the Sawyer Free Library. The location is at his elegantly garaged collection of antique cars on Mount Pleasant Avenue.  Frank went into detail about  some of the cars that are in his collection.
