Happy Thoughts

Jim Marr wanted to report that at last Saturday night's Spaghetti Supper showed off the "spirit of the club" and was a strong indication that the membership is alive and well. Well said, President Jim!  Cheryl Collis was happy the board has asked her to become its new director, and in 5 short years she'll be President of the Gloucester Rotary Club. Congrats Cheryl!  Mike Gigliotti was happy he was the one to buy his 21-year old grandson his first legal beer today.  Leo Bergeron was happy to remember to insert "shop til you drop tickets" into the new member's packets.  John Dugger was happy to stand up for Brian McCook during his swearing in ceremony.   Eleanor Hoy is happy to be going to Georgia to visit family next week.  Leo Bergeron was happy to be working at the Cape Ann Figure Skating Club's fundraising show.  His daughter and Joe Parisi's daughter both participated.  Joe Parisi's daughter did a solo skating performance  and  won her event.  David McKechnie was happy his assistant passed a brokers exam with an 86, and also managed to give birth in the same year.  That is what you call multi-tasking!  David Stotzer was happy his Decatur Street home is finally on the market by George RoarkRuth Pino was happy that George Roark works for her, and that she won a $1000 payoff at the most recent Chamber of Commerce drawing.   Rick Doucette was happy the Red Sox won their first game.  Greg Bover was happy his wife Francine just had a new CD released.  Christopher Farmer was just happy to be at Rotary today.

    Fines

Members who did not attend the Spaghetti Supper were fined today.  Mark Grenier was fined for his ambassador photo in the Chamber NewsletterMike Gigliotti was fined for a photo in the GDT's.      Club News

President Jim inducted three new members to Rotary today.  Please take a moment to welcome Perry Clark, Brian McCook, and David Rose.

Ruth Pino gave a report on the success of  the Spaghetti Supper on Saturday, April 1st.  The event grossed $4700 and netted $3300.  The amount will be shared with the Friends of the Rose Baker Senior Center and the Stage Fort Park Project.  Special thanks go to Julie Geary and Classic Cooks who organized all the food preparation.  Other special thanks to David Kenny and Shaw's for donating most of the food.  Thank you to all the members who helped out serving and selling and buying tickets.

Saturday May 20th is the date for the First Parish Cemetery Cleanup.  Check with President Jim and Bruce Horne to sign up.

The Shop'til You Drop fundraiser is off and running.  Please plan on working the Rotary table at Shaw's Eastern Avenue or Railroad Avenue.  Supplies are kept on location, just take a minute to sign up with Steve Kaity or Leo Bergeron,  or just drop by, check with the store manager,  and start selling whenever you have some free time.  The drawing date is April 30, and the drawing location will be the Gloucester Pride Stride event at Good Harbor Beach.  The shopping spree will be on May 13 at the Eastern Avenue Shaw's at 6:30 in the morning, yes 6:30 am.  The fundraiser is one of our largest, we need participation from all members.  The Stage Fort Park Playground Re-Construction Project will benefit from the money raised.

May 6 (Saturday) is the date for us to assemble to maintain the band stand at Stage Fort Park.  This "sprucing up the bandstand" is a yearly event.  The job involves scraping paint, painting, and landscape work.  Members can come for an hour, early or late, just plan on helping out, please!  The work is done in the morning and is completed by noon.

May 13th is the date for the Rotary Track Meet being held at Beverly High School.  The meet is usually held in Gloucester, but the GHS field is wet so the meet is  going to be held in Beverly.   Rotarians are needed to help out with running the event. Please see George Roark, who is coordinating the event.
