Happy Thoughts

Rick Doucette was happy to be celebrating his parent's 50th wedding anniversary. Rick was also happy  that at the last Rockport town meeting, voters agreed to funding a Youth Center.  The Rockport Rotary Club has committed to 10,000 dollars worth of funding for the center.

Brad Pierce was happy to relive an old memory today.  Brad was once an inexperienced bartender working the wedding reception of  visiting Rotarian Donnalee Christensen.  Brad made the rookie mistake of drinking his mistakes (of which there were many), ended up forgetting he was the bartender, and then became the life of the party!

Karl Muench was happy to be present when the call came in confirming the Lawerence Eagle Tribune had won a Pulitzer  Prize. Congrats to the Trib employees!

Mike Gigliotti was happy that his grandson Joshua called from his service location and said he was safe and well. Mike was also happy to be inducted into the Plastic Hall of Fame in June.

David Babson was happy his family got along during a recent vacation to British Columbia.

Anniversaries & Birthdays

No anniversaries or birthdays were reported today.

Fines

Dave Stotzer and Gay Brown were fined for not having any Interact members present at our meeting today.

Carol Sharoff was fined for an  article on her in the Boston Globe business section.

Mike Costello was fined for a typo on some Chamber promotion.  Mike, I feel your pain!

Rotarians who have not turned in their money for the Sweep Raffle were fined today.  The fine is up to $3 and will increase by $1each week. So sell, sell, sell those raffle tickets!

Scott Chernov was fined for not showing up for duty at the Rotary ticket table at Shaws.

Karl Muench was fined for a new badge.

Vacations

David Babson went to British Columbia.

A Rotary Moment

The next Rotary Moment will be given by Steve Curcuru followed by the week after by Alex Delis.

Club News

Presiden David announced the third reading for proposed new member Sal Fronterio; Sal should be sworn in at our next meeting.  Second reading was done for Neil Mathews of Standard Electric.  If any member has a question or comment about the proposed new members, please contact President David.

President David has issued a challenge to members.  Any member who can beat selling 140 raffle tickets in a day will receive a $5 reward from him.  President David hold the title and challenges any one to top him.

Save the date!  May 22 is the date for our own  Chief Jim Marr to have his retirement party at Woodmans in Essex.  Cocktails will be served at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 and a presentatons at 8. Tickets are 40 dollars each and are available by calling Acting Chief Mike McLeod at 978-281-9775.

Winners and Losers... No one  won the beverage of choice.  Pat Thorpe  won the money, and President David gave the flowers to Marion Gigliotti.  No winners today in the card raffle.

Speakers....  John Dugger introduced our guest speaker today, Robert Burbridge.  Robert is involved with the National Association of Professional Employer Organizations and president of his own firm called Genesis.

Lunch Rating...   Meals will be rated by 5 stars, with 5 stars being the best. Today we dined on Reuben sandwich with "freedom fries" and a nice dessert. The dinners at my table gave the food 5 stars.  When asked what would improve the meal, dinners suggested larger portions.
