Missed and Missing... Leo Bergeron, Scott Chernov, Steve Curcuru, Rudy Macchi, Jim McKenna, Bob O'Maley, Jim Perry, Marc Sandler, Julie Sidon, and Carole Sharoff. Today's attendance is 45 present with 2 makeups out of 54 members for an average of 87%


 

Meeting Report: Gloucester Rotary Club                             February 10, 2004

 

Visiting Rotarians

      Janet Favalora was visiting from the Rockport Club.  Interact Club member and student from Thailand (AFS student at GHS) was visiting today with members of the Gloucester Interact Club.  Chan Chi spoke about his country and the charity works his club performs.  Chan Chi is the first International Interact member to visit us.  President Greg presented Chan Chi with our club flag to take back to his home club in Thailand. It is interesting to note that Rotary Clubs around the world are making Interact Clubs a high priority.

 

Guests of Rotarians

     Cayte Ward had Pat Grady as her guest today.  Sue Todd had Susan Stendhal as her guest today.

 

Interact Club

     Interact members present today are: Hope Delly, Kristin Hoysradt, Alicia Aiello, and Amy Collard.

 

Makeups

     Two makeups were reported today,including one Jim Marr made up in Hamilton/Wenham.  Jim sold out his "Shop til you drop"  tickets while visiting their club! 

     

Happy Thoughts

        Greg Bover was happy his son was accepted at his first choice school, the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York.  Greg's son will be studying architecture.  Greg was also happy to have his niece be selected to skipper a 65 foot sailboat from Europe.

        David Slade was happy his daughter purchased a condo in Lynn.

        Brad Pierce was happy to be celebrating his 30 year membership in the Cape Ann Chamber.

       Cheryl Collins was happy to have helped so many people and  to be back alive from her volunteer work in the Dominican Republic.

       Joe Ciolino was happy that Mr. Hallmark invented St. Valentine's Day.

       Sinikka Nogello was happy to have depended on the kindness of a stranger who put money in her meter.

       John Scuccimarra was happy to have his wife answer "no" to a question asked by their young son.  (He asked his mother if she wished she had a dinky!)

        Cayte Ward was happy to have our guest speaker, who is a real nurse, have a male anatomy talk with daddy John Succimarra.

  Anniversaries & Birthdays

     Brad Pierce celebrated his Valentine's Day wedding anniversary.  Brad got married at Cameron's many years ago.

     Howard Frisch was happy to be celebrating the anniversary of his business, Horvitz and Frisch, founded by his former partner on February 12, 1972.  

Fines

     President Greg fined Rotarians who have not signed up for the Open Door.

    

Vacations

      Sue Todd vacationed in New Hampshire and Connecticut.

      Don Sudbay Jr. vacationed and did a little business in Las Vegas.

      Cheryl Collins and Charlene Glynn volunteered in the Dominican Republic.

      David McArdle went to visit the Magic Kingdom in Florida

    

A Rotary Moment

    The next Rotary Moment will be given by Julie Sidon, followed by the week after by Carole Sharoff and David Slade.

 

Club News

     The Board of Directors will meet at C.B. Fisk on Tuesday, February 17th at 7:30 am.

     Shorecliff and Rotary are joining forces to staff the kitchen at the Open Door Pantry from 4:00 to 6:30 pm on February 25 and March 24 at 38 Emerson Avenue.  Please sign up with Shirley Conway to pick a date.

      Mike Costello announced that on February 25, a "team bowling " event to benefit the Seafood Festival will take place at the Cape Ann Bowling Center.

      The Interact Club will hold a Food Drive on March 3rd at the Cape Ann Bowling Center.  People are being asked to bring in 3 non-perishable food items and in return will get a free string of bowling.


Winners and Losers... No won the beverage of choice.  Howard Frisch  won the money, and George Roark won the flowers.  No winners today in the card raffle.

 

Speakers....  Cayte Ward introduced our guest speaker, Patricia Grady, the Director of Health and Disease Management.  Ms. Grady talked about the new program recently started at Addison Gilbert Hospital.

 

Lunch Rating...   Meals will be rated by 5 stars, with 5 stars being the best. Today we dined on barbarcued meat sandwich and french fries.  The dinners at my table gave the food 3 stars.  When asked what would improve the meal the dinners suggested larger portions.
