Meeting Report: Gloucester Rotary Club                             February 17, 2004

Visiting Rotarians

Barb and Bob Ellis were visiting from the Rockport Club.

Guests of Rotarians

Cayte Ward had Jody Fleet, our guest speaker, as her guest today.  Barb and Bob Ellis had friends Mike and Carolyn Shepard as their guest.  The Shepards are visiting from Ireland.

Interact Club

Interact members were not present today.

Makeups

Jim Marr made up at Hamilton/Wenham, Herb Goodick made up at the Sunrise Club of Sarasota Florida, and Mike Costello and Donna Morris made up in Rockport.

Happy Thoughts

Bob Ellis is happy he has friends from Ireland visiting.

Pat Thorpe was happy to have his children visiting their grand-parents in Rhode Island.  Pat reported the house was very quiet without the children.  A fellow Rotarian inquired what Pat and his wife did to occupy their time during their children's absence. Pat's face turned beet red...does that answer the question?

Rick Doucette was happy to have been invited to the Actor's Studio in New York for a performance.

Jon Morse's step-mom was discharged from hospice and doing well at the age 91.  God bless!

Jim Marr was happy to have spotted a woman's purse in the street. Jim retrived it, located the owner and returned the purse.  Jim warned all purse holders in the club to NOT put purses on the roof when you are entering your car.

Donna Morris was happy to have attended her sister's wedding on Valentine's day.  Donna said a special prayer that this (the third) will be the final marriage for her sister.  Third time is a charm!

David Slade was happy that Verizon will show up at his home for some service.

Anniversaries & Birthdays

Cheryl Collins' parents were celebrating 54 "wonderful" years of marriage.

Fines

President Greg imposed a no tie fine, a cell phone fine, and late fines.

Tony Corrao paid a fine for a mink coat he bought his wife without knowing he actually bought the mink coat.  Tony's wife was heard saying that, "if Tony was here, he would want me to buy it." So she did.

Joe Parisi was fined for improperly training  fellow Rotarian Bruce Horne in the art of ordering badges for new members.   New members are still waiting to receive their name badges.

Vacations

Jon Morse visited California to see his step-mother.

A Rotary Moment

The next Rotary Moment will be given by Julie Sidon again, followed by David Slade, and Dave Stotzer.

Club News

The Board of Directors has approved Ruth Pino as a new director starting on July 1, 2004.

The Board also appointed Catherine Henry in charge of PR for the Stage Fort Project.  Steve Kaity will assume all fundraising duties for the project, and Joe Parisi will be in charge of the building/construction.  I have also selected Joe Parisi and Steve Kaity as my Directors-at-Large starting on July 1.  The above appointees will help the board focus on the Centennial Project.

Winners and Losers...No winner of the beverage of choice, Bob Ryan won the money, and Joan Carbone won the flowers.  No winners today in the card raffle.

Speakers.... Cayte Ward introduced our guest speaker for the day, Jody Fleet, SVP of Operations at AGH and the Hunt Center.  Jody talked about what measures are being taken to keep our hospital open.  Jody has taken Kathy Bliss's  former position.

Lunch Rating...   Meals will be rated by 5 stars, with 5 stars being the best. Today we dined on chicken nuggets and fries.  The dinners at my table gave the food 3 stars.  When asked what would improve the meal, the dinners suggested it be taken off our menu.
