Meeting Report: Gloucester Rotary Club                             July 22, 2003

 

Visiting Rotarians

        District Governor Paul Nader, Donna D'Agostino District Governor Elect, and  Assistant Governor Carol Elliott all were visitors today.

 

Guests of Rotarians

         No guest of Rotarians were present today.

 

Interact Club

         Interact members are on summer school break.:

         No makeups were announced today

     

Happy Thoughts

         Barry Pett was happy that Gloucester has raised enough funds for the Symphony Concert at Stage Fort Park. He is also happy the fund raising for the Police Memorial is going well, and  through the generosity of Roger Berkowitz the Gloucester Fund is now taking care of some  needs of the children whose fathers were lost on the Andrea Gail.   

         Bruce Horne was happy his wife is recovering from a broken fibula.

         Brad Pierce's wife also broke her hip in a fall and is recovering. On the upside, Brad's daughter is getting married Saturday. 

         Cheryl Collins was happy to have her children enrolled in day camp for the next 5 weeks.  Carol was happy to have Carole Sharoff in her new commercial for Ocean Optical.

          Bob Ryan was happy to attend a dinner with golfing icon Chi Chi Rodriguez.

          Sinikka Nogelo was happy to have her daughter visiting. Sinikka also told a delightful math story.

          Jon Morse was happy to announce his son and daughter-in-law are expecting twins.

          David McKechnie was happy to remember that the Chi Chi Rodriguez Golf Scholarship Program helped him  attend college.  David was also happy that his Little League Baseball team  is doing well in the finals.

         Julie Sidon was happy that her father was visiting her at the farm.

Anniversaries & Birthdays

         Carol Sharoff celebrated her birthday.  No anniversaries were reported today. Joe Ciolino forgot his wife's birthday today.

    

Fines

         Alex Delis was fined for a photo in the GDT's

         President Greg fined all members who were not wearing their Rotary pin.

Vacations

         Tom Consolati went to Hilton Head, South Carolina.

         Mike Costello vacationed in New Found Lake.

    The next Rotary Moment will be given by Bill Mantz followed by the week after by Jim Marr.

Club News

     Tuesday is the date for the Rededication of the Gus Foote Park.  The regular club meeting will be held at he Gloucester House at 7:30 A.M.  Invited guests will also be at he 7:30 meeting, with the 8:30 ribbon cutting open to the public.  Coffee and cake will be served back at the Gloucester House after the ceremony.

     Tuesday, July 29, is also the evening of the Cape Ann Rotary Joint Summer Boat Social.  The time is at 6:30 P.M. at Seven Seas Wharf on Rogers Street.  The cost is $20.00 per person and includes a light buffet, cash bar for all the Rockport drinkers, and a lovely evening.  RSVP with Jim Perry or Dennis Acker.

      Save the date, August 16 is the Pancake Breakfast.  This is one our biggest fundraisers and all Rotarians are expected to participate.  Details will follow.

      David Slade, of the Cricket Press in Manchester, has been presented for membership in the club.


Winners and Losers...No won the beverage of choice.  Brad Pierce won the money, and Dave Stotzer won the flowers.  No winners today in the card raffle.

 

Speakers.... Assistant Governor Carol Elliot introduced Distinct Governor Elect Donna Di Agustiono who spoke about her plans for next year.  Donna introduced our current District Governor, Paul Nader.  Paul reviewed the goals and objectives for his term.

 

Lunch Rating...   Meals will be rated by 5 stars, with 5 stars being the best. Today we dined on a New England boiled dinner.  The dinners at my table gave the food 5 stars.  When asked what would improve the meal the dinners suggested it was just fine.
