Happy Thoughts
John Dugger was happy to be up and about after his recent surgery, and to be able to attend Rotary today. Joe Parisi was happy to be able to help a visually impaired Gloucester teen with a gift of a Vision Enhancement Device; theKnight's of Columbus had a fundraiser to help make the purchase possible.
Fines
Mike Costello had to open his creaky old wallet to pay a fine for having his photo in the GDT"s. Rudy Macchi paid many fines today - good to have you back Rudy - fine revenues were down while you were away. President Jim did his seat belt fine, and once again the same Rotarians paid up. Rotarians who did not go fishing this past week received a fine. (Charlie Foster did in Florida.)
Club News
President Jim announced with regret the resignation of Dennis Acker from Rotary due to work scheduling conflicts. We all want to thank Dennis for all of his work during his years of membership.
April 1st Fools Wanted! Our first Spaghetti Supper fundraiser will be held on Saturday, April 1st (April Fool's Day) at 4 P.M. at the Rose Baker Senior Center. Please save the date! Help is needed to serve and help with the cleanup. Please show up at 3:30 pm to help out with the setup. Check with Ruth Pino and Cheryl Collins to sign up.
The Shop'til You Drop fundraiser is off and running. Please plan on working the Rotary table at Shaw's Eastern Avenue or Railroad Avenue. Supplies are kept on location, just take a minute to sign up with Steve Kaity or Leo Bergeron, or just drop by, check with the store manager, and start selling whenever you have some free time. The drawing date is April 30, and the drawing location will be the Gloucester Pride Stride event at Good Harbor Beach. The shopping spree will be on May 13 at the Eastern Avenue Shaw's at 6:30 in the morning, yes 6:30 am. The fundraiser is one of our largest, we need participation from all members. The Stage Fort Park Playground Re-Construction Project will benefit from the money raised.
May 6 (Saturday) is the date for us to assemble to maintain the band stand at Stage Fort Park. This "sprucing up the bandstand" for the summer is a yearly event. The job involves scraping paint, painting, and landscape work. Members can come for an hour, early or late, just plan on helping out, please! The work is done in the morning and is completed by noon.
May 13 is the date for the Rotary Track Meet being held at the Beverly High School. The meet is usually held in Gloucester, but the GHS field is wet and the meet is going to be scheduled in Beverly. The event needs some Rotarians to help out with the event. Please see George Roark who is coordinating the event for the club.
Winners and Losers... Sal Frontiero gave a Life Refection today. Carole Sharoff won the money, and Christopher Farmer won the flowers. No winners today in the card raffle.
Speakers.... Julie Geary gave her classification speech. Julie talked about her life and career choices.
