Vacations

Don Sudbay Jr. spent 3 days at his Rotary PETTS Conference in New Hampshire, and then went to Charleston, North Carolina on GM business.  Ruth Pino was in Freeport, Bahamas for 14 days.  Todd Tanger spent a week in Jupiter, Florida, where no sightings of Burt Remolds were reported.  Joe Parisi went to Mohegan Sun for some money trading.  Word is that Joe traded up on the deal.  Mike Sarraf went to Mexico.

Happy Thoughts

David Olson was happy to be wearing a seat belt when he was involved in a multiple car accident on Route 128.  David's car was a total loss.  Sinikka Nogelo was happy to say that a brand new grand-nephew bears a strong resemblance to Elvis.  Mike Costello was happy  this year's  Cape Ann brochure is out in record time.  Rumor has it that the process of making up the brochure went much easier this year when Mike promised not to get involved.  Mike is also happy that the Home and Garden show is sold out. Sal Frontiero was happy to have sold 120 "shop till you drop" tickets this week. Rick Doucette was happy to still hold the record of selling the most  "shop till you drop" tickets at the local Shaw's.

    Fines

Mike Costello was fined for having a photo of an "undersized" bass fish on the brochure.Charlie Foster was fined for mixing up shopping carts recently at Shaw's.  President Jim gave out the seat belt fine and the same pigeons paid yet once again.  Rotarians not wearing their Rotary pins were fined today.

     Club News

April  Fools Were Wanted and they showed up for  our  first Spaghetti Supper fundraiser held on Saturday, April 1st (April Fool's Day) at 4 P.M. at the Rose Baker Senior Center.  The committee did a great job organizing this new event.Thank you to all the Rotarians who supported and worked this fundraiser.

The Shop'til You Drop fundraiser is off and running.  Please plan on working the Rotary table at Shaw's Eastern Avenue or Railroad Avenue.  Supplies are kept on location, just take a minute to sign up with Steve Kaity or Leo Bergeron,  or just drop by, check with the store manager,  and start selling whenever you have some free time.  The drawing date is April 30, and the drawing location will be the Gloucester Pride Stride event at Good Harbor Beach.  The shopping spree will be on May 13 at the Eastern Avenue Shaw's at 6:30 in the morning, yes 6:30 am.  The fundraiser is one of our largest, we need participation from all members.  The Stage Fort Park Playground Re-Construction Project will benefit from the money raised.

May 6 (Saturday) is the date for us to assemble to maintain the band stand at Stage Fort Park.   This "sprucing up the bandstand" is a yearly event.  The job involves scraping paint, painting, and landscape work.  Members can come for an hour, early or late, just plan on helping out, please! The work is done in the morning and is completed by noon.

May 13th is the date for the Rotary Track Meet being held at Beverly High School.  The meet is usually held in Gloucester, but the GHS field is wet so the meet is  going to be held in Beverly.   Rotarians are needed to help out with running the event.  Please see George Roark, who is coordinating the event.

Winners and Losers... John Dugger gave a Life Refection today.  Jon Morse won the money, and Joe Parisi won the flowers.  No winners today in the card raffle.

Speakers....  Donna Pirra and Rene Meritt, Health Directors and Coordinators for the Life Line Screening Organization, spoke about stroke, stroke prevention and recognizing symptoms.
