Meeting Report: Gloucester Rotary Club                             March 25, 2003

 

Visiting Rotarians

      Arlene Taliadaros was visiting from the Manchester/Essex Club.

 

Guests of Rotarians

      Alex Delis had Neil Matthews, manager of Standard Electric in Gloucester, as his guest today.  John Scuccimarra had Kevin Bacon as his guest today.

Interact Club

     Interact members visiting today are as follows: Jon Blair and Rachael Sceviour.

 

Makeups

     Bruce Horne made up at the Rockport Club.

     

Happy Thoughts

    Cheryl Collins was happy she found a ten dollar bill in her pocket.  Cheryl,  found money is money you are supposed to treat yourself with a little osmething special!

     Brad Pierce was happy to have an add running at the local cinema.  The add will run before the movie. 

     Greg Bover was happy to have a new job at Yale University and is in line for another concert organ for the  Atlanta Symphony.

     Howard Frisch was happy to have won 500 dollars after he was busted by President David.

     Mike Costello was happy he has a new granddaughter, Faith Ann Costello.

     Ruth Pino was happy to have a new granddaughter named Gretchen.

     John Scuccimarra was  happy to have received a high approval rating from his son.  John's son thinks daddy is better mom than mom.

     Karl Muench was happy to still be working after making his 6 month milestone at the GDT's.

     Joe Ciolino was happy the City Council balanced the  city budget for the third time, and still managed to not tap in to the Gloucester Stabilization Fund.

     Brad Pierce was happy he won a nail gun at a recent Building Center Contractors meeting.

     Joe Parisi was unhappy that he will never sell a box a nails for that nail gun. 

     President David was happy for one of our Active Retired members, Mike Gigliotti.  Mike was inducted into the Plastic Hall of Fame.  A product which we take for granted was invented by our fellow Rotarian many years ago.  Mike invented the plastic for the  bottles we have today for soft drinks, water, and juice, plus many other plastic innovations.  Congrats, Mike!!!

 

Anniversaries & Birthdays

    Ruth Pino and Brad Pierce both celebrated their birthdays today.  No anniversaries were reported today.

    

Fines

     Ruth Pino and Mike Costello both paid their weight fine.

     Howard Frisch paid a winning fee fine.

  

Vacations

    Ruth Pino spent 14 days in Freeport, Bahamas.  Scot Chernov went to Newport, Rhode Island on Saturday.

A Rotary Moment

    The next Rotary Moment will be given by Steve Curcuru,  followed by the week after by Alex Delis.

Club News

    President David announced that Sal Fronterio has been proposed as a new member.  Sal is a an attorney working in town.

    Tom Consolati, soon to be retired Superintendent of Schools, sent a thank you regarding the $1000 donation our club made to the Great Starts Program.

 


Winners and Losers... Nobody  won the beverage of choice.  Denis Acker won the money, and Tony Carrao won the flowers.  No winners today in the card raffle.

 

Speakers....  George Roark introduced Margaret McBride as our guest speaker today  Margaret founded and operates the Adult Learning Center at the library.  Ms. McBride thanked the club for its continued support throughr the years.

 

Lunch Rating...   Meals will be rated by 5 stars, with 5 stars being the best. Today we dined on salad and teriyaki chicken.  The dinners at my table gave the food 4 stars.  When asked what would improve the meal the dinners suggested the chicken need to be served hotter and with a sauce.
