Vacations
Jim Perry spent two weeks in Marco Island. Joe Parisi spent a week on the Western Caribbean. Bruce Horne went to a conference at Penn State. Mark Grenier went to South Carolina.
Happy Thoughts
Jim Marr was happy that our club has a good Board of Directors. Mike Costello had to retract his last week's happy thought when John Dugger came in wearing a brace once again. George Roark was happy to have attended the GHS Drama Club presentation of "Charlie Brown." Bob Ellis was happy to have attended a NS MusicTheater's performance of "Pajama Game." Leo Bergeron was happy that the 19th annual Pride Stride on Sunday went well. Bruce Horne was happy his wife suggested he buy a riding mower after his heart attack. Steve Kaity was also happy the Pride Stride went so well, and was also happy that his daughter was in the GHS production of "Charlie Brown." Scott Chernov was happy the YMCA was honoring Rick Doucette's wife after 21 years of working for the YMCA. Ruth Pino was happy to have gone to the swimming lessons at the YMCA that she arranged for her two granddaughters. Ruth was also happy to have attended the Rockport Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner. Ruth was happy that her company came in second for the School Connection's Annual Spelling Bee. David Slade was happy to be back to attending Rotary after a 4 week healing period. David is also happy that his daughter Lauren is engaged to be married. Leo Bergeron was happy the Gloucester Co-Op Bank reserved it own table today.
Fines
President Jim gave out his seat belt fine today. Same "pigeons" (I mean Rotarians) paid up once again. Rotarians who did not attend or donate to Pride Stride were fined today. President Jim gave out table fines today consisting of: two bankers, two real-estate persons. Rick Doucette was fined for doing a commercial for the YMCA at Rotary today. Shirley Conway was fined for a cell phone violation.
Club News
May 13th is the date for the Rotary Track Meet being held at Beverly High School. The meet is usually held in Gloucester, but the GHS field is wet so the meet is going to be held in Beverly. Rotarians are needed to help out with running the event. Please see George Roark, who is coordinating the event.
May 17 is Paul Harris Dinner this year. Please join us in honoring Jon Morse, Charlie Foster, and the Interact Nominee, Joe Sullivan, the GHS Principal. Save the date! Check with Joe Parisi to sign up. New members - this is a very important evening for the club, please come stag, with a spouse or significant other, just make sure you attend please.. No regular meeting will be held on Tuesday the 16th as the Paul Harris Dinner will count as our meeting.
May 20 is the day for the First Parish Cemetery Cleanup. The club has taken to cleaning up this historic cemetery located on Centennial Avenue. Bruce Horne heads up this project, please see him to sign up.
May 27 is the date to start setting up the playground equipment at Stage Fort Park. 25 workers are required for the setup. Please check with Joe Parisi and Steve Kaity to sign up.
Remember please, President Jim has asked that every member participate in at least one of these club events.
June 6 at 6 PM is the date and time for the last Director's Meeting in President Jim's year. The meeting is very significant in that the funds we have all been raising this year are disbursed by the board of directors. The evening will be a pot luck supper. Board Members and spouses or significant others are encouraged to attend. The location is at Casa Ciolino, 28 High Popples Road. Check with President Jim for details.
Winners and Losers... Howard Frisch gave a Life Refection today. George Roark won the money, and Shirley Conway won the flowers. No winners today in the card raffle.
