   Boband Barbara Ellis from the Rockport Club were visiting today. 

 

 

Guests of Rotarians

     Tony Corrao had Greg Earle from the Newburyport area as his guest.  Carole Sharoff had Ed Gunn from Rockport as her guest today. 

 

 

Interact Club

Interact members were present in force today running our meeting.  10 members participated in the meeting today.  Fundraising efforts supported Polio Plus, H.A.W.K., Malaria Nets, My Sister's Keeper, Pure Water, Puppies Behind Bars, Heifer International, Cape Ann Food Pantry, Rose Baker Senior Center, Harvest Mels, YMCA Camp, and the Open Door.

 

 

Makeups

     President Sinikkamade up in Rockport /Manchester. 

     Rotarians can now make up on line. Check out www.rotaryeclubone.org , allow yourself 30 minutes to complete the makeup and make sure you print off a receipt of having completed your on line makeup.  Please hand  your receipt to Carole Sharoff in order for the attendance records to be adjusted.

 

Birthdays and Anniversaries

     John Dugger and Steve Noble were celebrating their birthdays today.    Jon Morse is celebrating 43 "wonderful" years of marriage to Carol. 

 

 

Vacations

      President Sinikka spent 2 days in New Hampshire, John Dugger spent 1 day on the south coast.  David Slade spent 4 days in California, Juie Geary had 3 days in Vermont, Steve Dexter spent 20 days in Turkey.  Mike Saraff and Marc Sandler also took trips. 

 

 

Happy Thoughts

Babara Ellis was happy to announce that Chorus North Shore will be perform in Ipswich on June 6.  President Sinikka was happy to see Steve Dexter home from his trip.  Brad Pierce was happy to see real leaves on the newly planted trees in the Rotary Traffic Island.  Brad was also delighted to see real grass coming up on the newly sodded field at at the Stage Fort Park project.  Christopher Farmer was happy about the Academic Excellence Awards given to three of the present Interact members.  He also reminded them that they must meet graduation requirements prior to June 14 -  in other words,  think twice about fining the School Superintendent.  Bob Ryan was happy his daughter graduated from Salem State, and Bob had the opportunity to meet Governor Duval Patrick.  Mike Costello reserved bragging rights once again concerning Northwestern athletics. Tony Corrao was happy Stage Fort Park has the best grass since the 70's.  Tony hopes to keep citizens of Gloucester off the grass until it takes hold.  John Dugger also had a happy thought. 

 

 

Fines

     Interact members lived up to their reputation for heavy fining. 

 

 

Club News

  • Please remember that we will not have a meeting on June 2 due to the Paul Harris Dinner
  • Bylaws will be discussed at the June 9th meeting.  If you get an opportunity please review before the meeting.  The bylaws have been emailed to all members. 
  • The Board of Directors will be meeting on June 11.
  • President Sinikka presented Christopher Farmer with 20 posters on Infant Mortality, written in several languages. 

 

Save the Date

This year we will be honoring Donald E. Sudbay Jr. at a special dinner on Thursday, June 4, 2009 at the Elks at Bass Rocks. Cocktail hour will begin at 5:30 pm followed by dinner at 6:30 pm. Dinner will include appetizers, salad, buffet dinner and dessert. Cost: $45.00 per person. Gloucester Rotary Club members can deduct $12.00 from cost of dinner. Please fill out below and return with payment by May 22nd. Checks Payable To GLOUCESTER ROTARY CLUB.

Ed Collard is up for next Tuesday's ABC of Rotary Moment, Shirley Conway is first backup, Roger Corbin is the second backup, and the third backup is Charlie Foster. Please have your  ABC of Rotary Moment  ready.

 

Winners and Losers:  Jim Cooke gave an·ABC of Rotary Moment.Tony Corrao won the money and the flowers.  No winners today in the card raffle.
