Happy Thoughts
Joe Parisi was very happy Jim Marr pounded him relentlessly about wearing a seat belt. Joe was wearing his seatbelt when he received a speeding ticket. Joe appealed the ticked and the Judge was so impressed that Joe was wearing his seatbelt he dismissed the ticket. Cheryl Collins was happy her son turned 16 and worked all summer to purchase a Mustang convertible car. (The exciting part is that her son cannot drive for another 6 months, so until then Cheryl's hair is windswept as she drives about town in her son's convertible.) Rick Doucette was happy the Rockport Preservation Act granted $60,000 to refurbish a state park. The RPA selected the YMCA to administer the money. David McKechnie is happy his nephew Drew has decided to join David's firm. Ruth Pino was happy to be at the new Cruiseport Terminal for our lunch, she was also happy to have witnessed the passing of Gloucester Crossing development after a grueling 8 hour City Council session. (Ruth, you must have a high pain threshold.) Lastly, Ruth was happy that two candidates on Chronicle were quoting her statement. One credited her as the source, the other one did not.
Fines
President Bruce fined any member who has been driving a Mercedes car this week. President Bruce also fined any member riding around in a Mercedes sport convertible, and Jim Marr pleaded guilty to all counts. The membership was also subjected to a Rotary pin fine today.
Club News
President Bruce announced that Cheryl Collins has resigned from the Board of Directors. A new director will be named shortly.
President Bruce thanked Frank Elliot and Sherry DeLorenzo for hosting our club at the Cruiseport today.
Maude Warren from the Open Door Foundation accepted a check from President Bruce. Maude spoke about how helpful the Interact Club has been with the Open Door Foundation food kitchen through the many years.
Save the Date:
District Governor Julia Phelps will be at our October 2nd meeting. Four new members will be inducted by DG Phelps during her visit that day. Please try to make this meeting, we need to put our best face forward with some good attendance that day for the District Governor's visit and to welcome the new members.

Members who looked at the boat yard next door to the Cruiseport saw this work in progress and were wondering why this boat was being restored. Sources tell us this boat is one of the last WW2 Naval Ships called PT boats(Patrol Torpedo Boats), as in PT109 and JFK. The Navy built them out of plywood, a new space age material then, so boats could work in mine fields. The PT boats raided the biggest warships Japan had in the South Pacific. The ship was built for speed, its only defense, and armed with torpedoes. Stripped down you can see the silhouette of a PT Boat. http://www.ptboats.org/
