Meeting Report: Gloucester Rotary Club                            September 9, 2003

 

Visiting Rotarians

     Charles Hansberger was visiting from the Las Vegas Central Rotary Club.  Bud Curtis was here from the Rockport Club, and Chas Heberle checked in from the Lakewood, Washington Rotary Club. 

 

Guests of Rotarians

     Charlene Glynn had Doctor and Mrs. Mann as her guests today.

    

Interact Club

     Interact members are on summer school break.

    

Makeups

     Sue Todd made up in Peabody and Bruce Horne made up in State College, Pennsylvania.    

 

Happy Thoughts

     John Dugger and daughter Sam had a wonderful time at this year's Soap Box Derby.

     David McKechnie was also happy that his sons won first and second place at this year's Soap Box Derby.

      Bruce Horne was happy his parents are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.

      Bruce Horne was happy to have made up Rotary at State College.  The club that Bruce made up at was a singing club.  Bruce was happy again that ours is not. 

      Jim Marr was happy to have played golf in the local Police and Fire Golf Tournament.

      Pat Thorpe was also happy to have the opportunity to play in the same tournament.

     Brad Pierce was happy to have had another window installed this week in his church/condo project.  Brad estimates there are only another 189 windows to go.

    

Anniversaries & Birthdays

     Herb Goodick celebrated his 79th Birthday.  Herb requested a happy birthday song sung accapella by Mary Black.  Mary gave a wonderful rendition of the song.  Congrats, Herb.

      Bruce Horne is celebrating two anniversaries today; one is 19 "wonderful" years of marriage, the other is 25 years at Gorton's.  Alex Delis is celebrating 15 "wonderful" years of marriage.  President Greg is celebrating 25 "wonderful" years of marriage.  Congrats to all!

    

Fines

      Members who have not turned in their high school photos paid a fine again.

      President Greg dished out late fines today.

      John Scuccimarra was fined because he was too busy to talk to a fellow Rotarian at work.

      Joe Parisi was again fined today for a sexist comment.

      Alex Delis was fined because his entry car in the Soap Box Derby fell apart during the first run.

      David McKechnie was fined for fathering the 1st and 2nd place winners for this year's Soap Box Derby.

      John Dugger was reminded by President Greg that he still owed some rent for the use of the Bover Soap Box car.

    

Vacations

     Joe Parisi experienced a Canadian vacation.  Jon Morse spent his vacation around the Cape.  Cayte Ward followed Jon's plans and spent two week in Rockport.  Jim Marr went to Bear Mountain and Pat Thorp went to Wentworth by the Sea.

    

A Rotary Moment

    The next Rotary Moment will be given by Neil Mathews or Jim McKenna, followed by the week after by Fran Mondello.

 

Club News

     President Greg had the first readings today for two new proposed members, Joan Carbone of Greycliff, and Donna Morris from Bank North.

 


Winners and Losers...Herb Goodick won the beverage of choice, Steve Kaity won the money, and Josh Arnold won the flowers.  No winners today in the card raffle.

 

Speakers....  Charlene Glynn introduced our speaker, Mrs. Mann, who spoke about a Gloucester history grant for Gloucester High School Students.

 

Lunch Rating...   Meals will be rated by 5 stars, with 5 stars being the best. Today we dined on spaghetti and meatballs . The dinners at my table gave the food 5 stars.  When asked what would improve the meal the dinners had no suggestions
